SOURCE: Samsung DLP TV shuts off

Hello All, I may have an inexpensive solution to your problem. I had the same problem with my TV as well. It would shutoff by itself about an hour after it was turned on. The when I would turn it on again it would shut off after 5 to 10 minutes. Finally I got fed up. I knew it was not my bulb because the picture still looks good. I did here a buzzing if I would turn the TV on right away after it would shut off. That was do to the bulb recharging itself. I noticed the TV was extremely hot in the back. So automatically I thought it was the cooling of the set. All post I read keep saying the TV would last about 2 years to a year after a service. Which would be right because (most) service repair clean out the units before installing new parts. What I did was I opened unplugged the TV from the wall and opened unscrewed the back panel door. I used my Air compresser and blew out all the dust inside. ( A can of compressed air should do the job if you do not have a compressor) I removed the bulb and blew out the dust on the bulb as well. I did not remove the bulb from the housing unit. After I dusted the bulb and housing unit I reinstalled it. I keep my home clean but you should have see all the dust that came out. The dust covering the components overheat the unit which causes it to shutdown. It has been about 2 weeks and have not experienced any problems since. All I can say is give this a try and maybe this will work for you. This will only cost you about 10 dollars and 30 minutes of your time. This is better that Hundreds of Dollar in repair.

SOURCE: tv turns off after 5 sec.

I have over 10 years experience in electronic tech support.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but the problem you've described can't be fixed with troubleshooting. Your TV will have to be repaired. There is a part that has developed a defect and needs to be replaced. If you're still in warranty, the TV will be repaired at no charge to you. The warranty would likely be at least one year from the date of purchase from the manufacturer. If you purchased an extended service plan they will repair the TV at no charge as well.

If the TV is no longer in warranty, it will likely cost a minimum of $150 parts and labor. This is assuming that you only need one circuit board or small part. If the problem is more than one of the circuit boards, the price of repair could go much higher.

I hope I've provided you useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an informed decision as to how to proceed from here. Please be sure to vote on my response. I hope I've earned a good rating from you today.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
