Everything I found pointed to this board being installed in a Packard Bell computer. One listing indicated the board supported up to 2GB of RAM. So, apparently, 4GB won't run on this system.

Your RAM DIMMs are fine. They're reading 1GB ea when inserted because that is the maximum supported per DIMM slot.

So, in the end, the issue is the limitation w/ your motherboard.


SOME HELPFUL INFORMATION:
When you're trying to find info or support on parts installed in an OEM computer (like a Packard Bell), you'll usually have much better luck searching or requesting support using the computer model no. in addition to the (for example) motherboard model no.

The reason is, (w/ respect to motherboards), most are special made by the original manufactuer for the computer manufacturer. They aren't usually going to be "off-the-shelf" motherboards for which documentation and support will be made readily available to the public.

Having the model no. of both the major assembly (computer) **and** the subassembly (motherboard) is the best combination to strike. :)

You know that there is a limit of amount of ram on your motherboard, try check google for it.
