Banging noise in washer - Kenmore 16372 / 16374 / 16379 Built-in Dishwasher

A Speed Queen top-load washer making a banging sound at the beginning of the cycle could be a sign of a few problems. You could examine the following:

Leak could be a few things, Pump depending on what side its on /bangs, are they electrical ?

Sounds like it may have been overloaded, or unblanced, I would say it would be better to replace....it can get pricey if the first fix doesn't work. Washers don't cost what they use to, get a scratch and dent sale item and save money too!

check the counter balance weight

open the top and look all around the tub there should be 3 springs supporting it one came off on my washer and was making the same noise

Try redistributing the wet clothes for better 'balance'.

Check the springs, and make sure the water ring still has water in it.
