Most traffic reporting is done over FM radio frequencies so it really doesn't matter whether it's rush hour or not, unless your GPS traffic receiver is being shielded by other traffic, but this is unlikely.
You can learn all about how this is done at http://www.gpsreview.net/traffic/ If the traffic receiver is external to the GPS, like with the Garmin NUVI where it's in the power cord, make sure it's not near some dense metal that might be shielding it.

TomTom One 3rd edition can't connect to GPS (maybe related to recent WNRO update)

While I'm not certain it is related (to the WNRO update), you may wish to check out a couple of other possibilities.
Yes, the recent WNRO update will ensure the time (on the GPS device) is properly displayed (after getting the satellite signals).
Find out if the software in your GPS device (model, etc.) can be updated (via the tomtom HOME software). If it can, and if the WNRO update is the cause of your not being able to connect, it may solve the problem.
If the software cannot be updated, it's TomTom's way of phasing out (i.e. not continuing to support ) older models of their GPS devices ... and tomtom hopes you'll get a new model, etc.
Otherwise, try to update the "satellite location" information regularly, i.e. the QuickGPSfix (data) patch, using the tomtom HOME software. It provides updated information to the GPS device on the (new) locations of the satellites. [ Yes, satellites do stray from their locations ] That may solve your problem too.

IS TOMTOM N14644 A LIFETIME UPDATE

You will know if your (specific) unit comes with a free life-time map update if it says so on the retail box that it comes in. Usually there is an "M" ... indicating free Map updates. A "T" indicates free Traffic (info) updates.
Otherwise, you can register the unit (on the TomTom website), and use the TomTom HOME software .... to find out. When you connect the unit to your computer running the TT HOME software, it will automatically tell you if/when you have updates ... including any free map updates

REPLACMENT CORD

TomTom recommends that youvisit their website to find the approved car chargers. There is a reason for that. The devices that have Lifetime Traffic update use the charger chord as an antenna to receive the traffic information.
If you are willing to lose that capability then things are simpler. Check the cable terminal that goes in the device. The end is one of two types USB mini B or USB micro B. Any car charger that has the correct end will do. But you lose the traffic updates.

Tomtom still charges but traffic receiver stopped working

I'm using the TomTom Go 730T - I think this is the latest and the last TT with Traffic because TT stopped supplying this option. I'm having the same problem from time to time but a reset helps. Just press the Reset button and after restarting the traffic option is back. Janos

Hi i have justnd just purchases tom tom 730 Go and connected it to my pc. it wont seem to disconnect. it wont turn on fully and has a big cross on the screen

That means you didn't let TomTom Home finish your update before you disconnected. You can do one of two things: reconnect update your device, but if that fails to work, you're going to need to do a hard reset of the device. It is very important to allow TomTom Home to completely finish installing any updates you select before disconnecting or the software may become corrupt.

Just bought new Tomtom and it says to update within 30 days but I don't know how

Hi, If its all working OK to your requirements . Let sleeping dogs lay. Theres no need to update it if you are happy. If you require traffic information updates ( thats if you are paying a subscription for the service ) then you will probably want to update anyway..... You can update by going to the TomTom website and downloading their software "TomTom Home" . Install this to your PC and follow the instructions . You will need to connect your TomTom to your PC via USB cable in order for any updates to take place. TomTom Home does this automaticly for you ( more or less ). You should laos have received a CD with your TomTom at purchase and this CD contains the TomTom Home software . Good Luck.

I require an update from 7.101 to 7.22 at least to work my RDS-TMCTraffic Reciever as stated on the box that was supplied with the reciever

The problem seemed to be solved when I downloaded the latest update onto my TomTom. Although it was not as the RDS-TMC Traffic Reciever information stated on the box supplied with the system, I was able the recieve a signal form a radio station.

I have been unable to prove the whole system as I have not encounted any traffic holdups to date.

Thankyou for your reply.

Yours Faithfully
