Have you tried resetting, either by (a) holding down the Power ON/OFF button .... a long time ... until the unit shuts down and starts up again, or (b) pushing a pin into the RESET hole) after the TomTom has been fully charged ?

The Safety settings are located in the Settings or Preferences menu.If you get a message Safety lock enabled, the option Show essential menu buttons while driving is selected in the Safety settings.

If there was previously a map(s), and now you're getting the No Maps Found (message), it's likely that your map (data) got corrupted. You can recover by restoring your back-up copy of the map (that you'd previously done via TomTom HOME on your computer). If you don't have a back-up copy, try using your computer's disk check utility to fix the file system (of the storage media on your GPS device). Just connect the GPS to your computer, no need to use TomTom HOME, just use the Properties tab and use the Tools to run a disk check (assuming you're using Windows).If that doesn't work, you may want to purchase & download and install the latest copy of the map from the TomTom website (via HOME).

not much to do with that unit, check with a volt meter to verify that power is present at the plug cord charging, if all your efforts fail and the unit is dead your trouble is in the unit itself, this unit is not serviceable by any one other than one with knowledge and equipment to repair this unit, check for warranty if not obtain a new one,,,?Sorry

If your navigation device shows only the start-up image or you see a flashing cross after you switch it on, it means that the TomTom application is not installed or cannot be found.

1. Connect your navigation device to your computer.
   
   
2. Reset your navigation device.
   
   TomTom HOME starts.
   
   
3. If HOME offers a new application, click Back.
   
   
4. Delete the TomTom application from your device and computer by clicking Manage my navigation device.
   
   
5. Reinstall the application by clicking Update my device.
   
   
6. Safely disconnect your device.

Open the two torx screws at the rear of the unit. Then gently push out the front section through the screw holes. Release the front section and inside will be the motherboard which has four more torx srews. Open those and note when replacing where one screw connects the antenna. Lift out the motherboard and at the rear will be the battery which is glued on. carefully use a credit card to prize it up and it will release it-be careful not to damage the motherboard. New battery will need to be glued back on as otherwise it will be difficult to re-assemble-good luck.

Please do the following steps.

1. Check that the battery is charged properly.
Charge your device for at least 2 hours before trying to turn it on again. Make sure the charging light on your device is on.

2. Remove the SD card
If your device uses an SD card, remove it.

3. Reset the device.
Use a straightened paper clip, or something similar, to push the reset button for 15 seconds. See the pictures below for where to find the reset button.



Turn your device on.
Press the On/off button for at least 5 seconds.

Insert the SD card
If your device uses an SD card, insert the SD card.

Connect your device to your computer using the USB cable or dock.
If your TomTom device asks you if you want to connect to your computer, tap YES.

UNINSTALL THE APPLICATION

TomTom HOME may run automatically when you connect your device. If it does not, run TomTom HOME on your computer.

In the Main Menu of HOME click on Manage my device.



Click on the plus symbol (+) next to Applications. Click in the checkbox [ / ] on the right to select the application.



Click on Remove items from device.

Click OK at the prompt.

You will see a prompt, asking you to save a copy before you delete it. Choose Don't copy.

The application will then be removed. Click Done when complete.

REINSTALL THE APPLICATION

Fully Exit TomTom HOME.

Locate the TomTom folder in the following location on your computer:

• Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\\My Documents\
• Windows Vista: C:\Users\\Documents\

Rename this folder to 'TomTomOLD' (or Windows, right-click the folder and choose Rename)

Restart TomTom HOME.

Click Update my device in HOME.

You will be prompted to login. If you do not have an account in TomTom, create one.

Install all available updates that will be shown.

Updating your device ensures improved performance and addresses the frozen issue that you are experiencing.

I have had the same problem with this model of TomTom. Called the company and they sent me a new one. Same thing wrong with the new one they sent. The one technician said it is a problem with the application loaded onto the unit. Haven't found a fix for it yet, and they won't send another model, just the same one over and over.

For a temporary solution, uncheck all of the POIs, upgrading to the latest firmware should fix it from there.

make sure you have computer voice selected in settings

1. If you have TomTom Home application installed, attach your Tomtom to your PC and run the program. Select update map. Options should be offered with prices.
2. Go to TomTom web site. Follow options for maps. Either download/pay for map or apply for a map on an SD card if preferred. Register it at the given site.
3. There are non-TomTom sites offering maps and keygen/codes to unlock them. Not an appropriate solution, though and my mention of them does not imply that I endorse them in any way.

ahh
your gps is looking on the card for the map.
you will have to remove the card and it should find the maps again.
