Whirlpool LA6800XTWO will not drain or spin

My whirlpool imperial washer fills with water, but the water is not pumped out nor does it spin. The timer advances normally. When it gets time for the water to be pumped out or for the basket to spin I hear a moderately loud hum (like the motor is trying to spin but can't). What do you think is wrong.

Washer fills up and starts. Once it gets to rinse cycle and spin cycle is makes a loud humming noise but wont spin. If i open the top lid and wait a second or two and close it, it starts the cycle. Been...

If you have a direct drive washer made by Whirlpool, your washer transmission has what is called a neutral drain built into it. It is designed to pump water out before it starts to spin. After water has drained out, the timer has a pause in it where motor shuts off for about 5 seconds. When motor comes back on, transmission is then in gear to spin. If timer never pauses, then washer never goes in gear to spin. Timer is most likely defective.

Fills with waters starts making a buzzing sound

Check to see if there is something(sock) in the pump. If not, try spin washer with pump hanging down, but not with hoses off.

Won't fillCalypso whirlpool washer model#GVW9959KQ1 LD on display

LD is long drain error, the machine does not fill because it is in fault mode, but error is on drain system.

If there is a drain problem, the parts that must be checked are drain hose, pressure switch, drain pump assembly, timer control.

Check if the drain hose at the back is kinked or blocked.

Test the pressure switch, blow into the small hose, and use a multimeter to check if switch has continuity.

Remove access panel and get to the drain pump hose to check for ablockage. You will need to disconnect the hose and collect the water.

Keep a container ready to collect water when you undo pump hose.

Ifall the rest is OK, test and eventually replace timer board.Problemwith water pump are far more commonly causing this problemsthenfaulty timer board.

WASHER FILL, NO PROBLEMS AGITATING, WHEN TIME

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

The Kenmore / Whirlpool top load uses a reversing motor to initiate the pump for draining and the transmission to spin.

If you cannot hear the motor trying to turn the pump, (but the washer will agitate) the problem points to the Timer, or the Lid Switch.

Try to bypass the Lid Switch by removing the Console and jumping the two outermost pins on the switch.

This is the Whirlpool PDF on installation and maintenance of direct drive washers. See the section on how to bypass the lid switch and on the transmission.

Following is an illustrated description of how to remove the cabinet on Kenmore / Whirlpool top load direct drive washers.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137

Since it won't drain, the problem points to the lid switch. You already have the cabinet off so replacing the switch isn't too difficult.
The Sears site has the Sears (and probably Whirlpool) part number.

My washer is not draining or spinning. It fills & agitates. whirlpool LLR8245DQ0 . i LOWERED THE DRAIN HOSE AND DRAINED IT BUT IT STILL DIDN'T SPIN

It may be the wire from pressure switch is either not receiving power through the switch or it may be broken? If that is ok then check timer.

sounds like a broken coupler, looking at your wiring diagram this unit would agitate with lid up right? then lid sw is not your problem, if it does not drain either then motor must be not turning over, so i would check the capacitor first. (it on the back panel behind the tub)

Not sure if manifold is leaking

Leaks water...check the pump first. The fill valve and hoses may be the next step. See how to take apart info. With the use of plastic drain hoses on many machines today, this has become a common leak trouble maker. The drain hose can rub the wall or a pipe and this will rub a hole in the drain hose.

Whirlpool AWO3761 stuck mid-cycle

The cycle doesn't advanceWhen the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

    Whirlpool super capacity imperial

We have a drain issue it seems like. I would first check the drain hose to make sure that an air gap exists to prevent drain water siphoning into the machine and then run a rinse and spin empty to see if this helps. Second is to check spin speed and pump condition as these two can work together to create a problem similar to yours.
