Hi I have a Brugnetti Simona Espresso Machine, The knob that you need to turn counter clockwise to make steam will not budge either way.

I would not know how to take the frother apart to do what was suggested. I have had a water softener in my water system for many years, not sure it is causing build up of calcium.

My Brugnetti Espresso Machine is very clean even though it is (old) it looks brand new. I use it at home and I am the only one that uses it. Since I purchased it quite a time ago, I've only used it about a dozen times. Last week I rediscovered it packed away, and decided to try it out. It makes the espresso beautifully. It makes 2 cups at a time without any trouble. It's the steamer. I do see a little water drip from the nozzle, but that's it. I am a senior female that is quite proficient to take instructions, as long as I don't have to take the machine apart. It only has the one knob, that would start the steam, and it is VERY tight.

I'm going to have a professional remove the knob, and hope that will end my problem.
    thanks

The knob assembly needs replacement.many a times applying ooil or WD-40 in the sides of knob and trying it after half an hour releases the blocked /jammed knob.other wise the knob needs replacement.
the assembly of knob is near to $16.a technician is advisable to replace the knob assembly.becasuse the machine has to be taken aspart and its tough job.but yes its worth getting fixed.
faced by many of my clients and it solves after replacing the knob assembly.

Hi,

I have the same problem on a regular basis with both of mine.

I't generally pretty easy to fix. You will need a container of CLR(or other calcium & lime solvent) mixed 1 part CLR to 4 Parts water. Soak the steam assembly in the mixture for about 30 mins then dump the mixture into your reserve tank and warm up the machine.

The sticking usually happens as a result of a buildup of minerals in the water and if the steam handle is seizing then the rest of the machine likely needs a good cleaning too. Run the machine through a cycle(without grounds) as if you're making expresso. The handle may still be a bit stiff after the initial soaking but after you open and close it a few times with the steaming CLR passing through it should clean right up and spin freely.

Once you have got it running nicely again, 1 or two treatments, then repeat the process four more times with plain water to flush out the CLR which is dangerous to consume in even relatively small quantities, not to mention it would make the espresso taste like crud.

If two passes of this method doesn't even budge it. The other possibility is the threads have been crossed. the only way to get it off if that is the case is heating it(making steam) then brute force to dislodge it.

Hopefully the first solution is all you need, I've seen a buddy rip the steam handle off his attempting the brute force method...not pretty, specially considering I almost saw a 30 year old mechanic cry :O

Anyway, hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

If your Saeco trips a safety switch it is probably dripping water onto an...

Here's a few Tips for the countless number of people having problems with the Saeco Line Super Automatics Machines.

These are more Suggestions if you will on what you can do that will help your machine last as long as possible.

Tip 1. Surge Protector. Get one and use it on your machine. About half of the problems associated with saeco's revolve around a power....or lack of power problem.

Even the smallest Surge can send your machine out of whack. Worse yet if it loses power while in mid cycle, it can jam the brew system.

Tip 2. Bottled Water. Coffee is 90% Water, so by contrast quality water will increase the quality of the cup. Try an artisan water like fuji or italian bottled water, or even filtered water. This small tip will not only keep your machine insides clean, it'll make for a way better espresso.

Tip 3. Ditch the Oiley Beans. All Super Automatic Espresso Machines, even the 20,000 dollar commercials have one major flaw. They Hate Oiley Coffee Beans. Why? Its simple, Oiley Beans Gum Up the inside of the grinder and brew drive system and clog them.

Another Reason to Ditch Oiley Beans? Being a 2nd Generation Artisan Roaster Oiley Beans scream a few things. Oiley beans are usually over roasted. The oil on the beans isn't a good thing, the oil represents the flavor oils from inside of the coffee emerging out. Once they become oxodized the coffee loses flavor almost immediately. Oiley beans are also a sign of beans that have aged, which again, is not a good thing. Proper Espresso Should have very little to no Oil on the beans with a Uniform Color Darker then a city roast.

They Only Time there is an exception is with a french or dark roast, where the ashy tones are allowed.

Best Advice here is try to find a local roaster. The quality is usually better then any of the commercial corperate counterparts and your actually supporting people like you. What kind of people is that??? People who have a genuine love for coffee and want people to share that love.

Tip 4. Descaling. Even with bottled water the machine should be descaled every other month. You have a variety of options here. I personally use cleancaf for its ease of use and the fact every packet has the instructions on them.

Tip 5. Brew Group Cleaning. Clean the Brew Group with Soapy Water. No chemicals necessary. You'll also need to purchase some silicone lubricant which is sold by saeco. It must be food grade. The lubricant is applied around the inside ridge of the puck area of the brew group. The first 3 coffee's on the machine should be tossed there after to clear it of residue.

Tip 6. Turn Machine off after each use. When you don't need it, don't leave it on. Leaving it on for long periods of time creates air pockets inside the boiler of the machine and can dry out the inner gasket of the boiler unless you have the new J Style Boilers that come with the newer lines from Saeco.

Tip 7. Be careful of your grinder. Firstly, I tell people every day. This machine is not ment to make commercial quality espresso. Its just not possible. It was ment to make for a better experience than the traditional italian moka pots that make fairly terrible coffee. If you want a stronger coffee, then the answer is in itself, try other coffee's.

The machine enhances good coffee, and by comparison, enhances the flaws in bad coffee. Inferior Coffee's will have little crema and bad taste. The machine will try the best it can to accomodate the coffee. The Elongated pre infusion cycle help take even the worst coffee and make it look like it gives increadible crema. The proof comes afterwards, where the crema will decipate from the bad coffee's but will stay strong on the true espresso blends.

Setting the grinder any lower then 2, regardless of the model, it warrent for clogging and/or damaging the unit. If the coffee is too fine, it'll clog the unit, and usually cause the brew drive to strip the gears and even worse, i've come across cases where its even broken the brew drive.

This concludes my Tips for Keeping your Saeco functional post. I hope this helps people and gives them incentive to step out of the box when it comes to conventional coffee's that are on the market.

you must purge the machine first, by waiting till the light turns on then slowly turn steam knob until a steady stream of water appears.Make sure unit is full of water.

JUST HAD IT SERVICED. RAN TWO SHOTS OF ESPRESSO, STEAMED MY MILK JUST FINE. THEN WHEN I TRIED TO DO ANOTHER SHOT, PUSHED BUTTON AND NOTHING HAPPENED. STEAM LIGHT FLASHING, WON'T GO OFF.

Hi
If you steam and then try to make another coffee, you need to cool the boiler off. Turn the steam off by pushing the steam button again, then open the steam knob and running water until the flashing light turn to green steady. Then make you coffee.

Boiling.

Their is a thermostat connected directly on the water boiler and this might be stuck open or it is completely brocken and you need to replace it. Please note that the above problem it does not come alone, maybe the machine is too old or used too much so you might need a very good ispection by open the side panels and work it open so you can see if their are any other problems that might damage the machine further.
Good Luck

A burnt smell is filtrating my milk when I steam it..and it's discolouring the milk.

Yikes! that doesn't sound good. Please supply more details as to your steaming technique. In the mean time, I will just say that you should not steam above 150 degrees F or so lest you burn the milk. If you don't have a thermometer, but are using a metal steaming pitcher, keep your hand on the side of the pitcher as you steam. It it gets too hot to touch, you've gone too far. Good luck steaming! And let us know if you are having a different, more specific problem.
