We use the NEC DTU 16 system in our small law office. at my desk i have the NEC DTU 16D-2. I would like to know a few things about the phone but cant find a manual online or support from NEC. I would like to know the following...
1. how do you control the ring volume, ring tones.
2. how do i use the "Night function"?. (The bosses have the larger phone that have a button called "Night". Mine however does not but appearently can be accessed. It keep the phone from rining the front and take ppl to a voive menu where they can choose an option to go.)
3. Headset. I see that it has a headset port on the underside but for the love of me i cant get it to work. i plugged in and nothing worked. i figured it would work like just clicking the answer button and it would answer.
4. any reccomendation on a new phone that is compaitble with the system we have in place. appearently these are discontinued and a new phone for me would be great. especially a headset. :-)
thanks,
Jason

Yes, the NEC DTU-16D-1A can be used with a standard PSTN line. You will need to program the phone system to recognize the PSTN line instead of the ISDN2 line. Here are some steps you can take:
Access the programming mode on the NEC Xen Alpha system by pressing "Speaker" and then "7" on the main phone.
Enter the system password, which should be provided in the user manual or by your system administrator.
Press "Speaker" and then "3" to enter the line programming mode.
Scroll through the line options using the arrow keys until you find the option for PSTN. Select this option.
Save your changes by pressing "Speaker" and then "Store".
Once you have completed these steps, your NEC DTU-16D-1A handsets should be able to connect to the PSTN line and function properly.

Would you expect a Nortel phone to work on an NEC sysem? The phone is digital and it requires an NEC system to work. Nortel M7208,7310, T7316 are phones that typically work on Nofrtel digital systems. They also require a digital port.
This manual will not only tell you how to fix this issue, but how to pretty much fix/change all programming for the NEC Electra Elite DTU-16D-2 phones.
