OS on RAID is corrupt

Okay I got a real hummdinger for people who use RAID sets. this guy has a server with the OS on a RAID 0 set and data on a RAID 5 set. The computer says that the files in windows/system32/config/.... are corrupt. This is easily fixable if I could gain access to the set, but I cant I have tried Bart PE, Linux Live CD's, and all other methoids, including forcing the BIOS to boot off a single drive with a different OS on it but no luck. Anyone know how I can get access to the RAID set so I can correct the file errors?

I am running windows xp pro and the hd's are mirrored, I keep getting to the point it just loads xp then gives me a blank screen. I repaired the operating system, now it just keeps cycling over and over. its like repairing the os made it worse then it was previously. I just cannot figure out how to get it back to running correctly.

Hi Compufixa,

Your problem is with the system needing a raid driver for the motherboard or the raid card. pretend you are installing windows with bartpe. it also asks you for the raid drivers. use a floppy disk with the raid drivers and let it load. that should let you see the raid drives as a set.

Hi Guest,

Your problem is a little different. since its a mirror raid. you might want to try taking out one of the drive and work with a single drive until it is fix. try doing a repair with the windows CD. seems like there are some corrupted OS files. And you might want to start a new question since your problem is really different from Compufixa's problem. Thanks

Detecting Array ... after updating drivers manually on Win 10

not told at all what you have.
a PC of some kind running some kind of windows PC OS or windows server not told. what.
no RAID card told.
or what RAID chip is there or MOBO used,
I this hardware RAID or software RAID
RAID mode not told, RAID 0,1,...5, 6, 10 ?? what
how may SATa drives in the ARRAY set?
what size HDD in the set (over 2TB?) each.

install w10 was told but most old PC DO NOT SUPPORT W10 at all. No PC told yet not one clue.

"nvlddmkm.sys"
this is a failing windows NVIDIA VIDEO CARD DRIVER. no video chip told or video card told.

was this PC window 7 before and are attempting w10 install.
did you buy this secret PC form others and now it fails trying to put on w10>>

best it put a SSD in this PC,if PC secret is not too old
and install w10 to the SSD and not the RAID
then when W10 is running good rebuild the RAID, last.
then if RAID fails the SSD keeps booting and RAID is vastly more easy to maintain.

NO PC told and help beyond this point is going to be weak.
need to know all hardware there. PC and all cards inside, or help will be weak or generic. ,like mine

FAIL-SAFE FILE SERVER AND COMPUTER SYSTEMS

If your data is very important, you should consider doing regular data backups because hard disk will fail at some at some stage in the future. This is especially true when you get an error message"hard drive is about to fail".

Depending upon how critical your computer or files server to you or your business, you should consider building a fail-safe computer or file server system using RAID technology. RAID means "A Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks" and there are several levels of RAID.

For details of different RAID levels - click on this link -
http://searchstorage.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid5_gci214332,00.html

The most common of the fault redundant RAID systems are -

RAID 0 + RAID 1 provides fastest data transfer Mirrored hard drives.

RAID 5 is one of the most popular system, it data striping across hard drives with error correction. It has excellent performance with fail-safe system and allows for hot swappable hard drives.

There should be redundant powers supply inside the computer or file server in the event of a power supply failing.
Another consideration is to install a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) to prevent a computer or server shut down from power outages, as this will corrupt your data.

These systems do not mean you should not back up your data on a regular basis.

Hey folks! Edited Q to save characters: 1. Asus KCMA-D8 mb. Suggestions for a server PSU? 2. Suggestions for distros = maximize use/performance out of 2x AMD Opteron 4133 + Radeon WX?

your post makes sense to me.
the conflict of server then workstations.
no purpose at stated for this workstation, nor why you need graphics beyond simple.
No list of purpose or applications that need this powerful motherboard (besides bragging rights?)
Distro;s ?
you do know that all OS can serve files right?
file sharing they all do it!
I guess because the mobo is a tagged server , you think it is, but is not, the WHOLE system is what makes a real server not just the mobo.

why would you need 2 CPU>? what application can you name that will need that, for sure not serving files to 100s of users online.
What a real hardware server can do better is do that with 100s of users or more.
So is just 2 CPU workstation....

I'm not sure what piddly games are?
just Solitaire. or COD infinite warfare.?
Linux games? which ones? Join a real Linux forum?

Q1:
1: power budget, is simple.(addition math watts is it)
the motherboard (not spec but the manual says)
all HDD. (figure 30 watts to start it and 12w to run)each.
All AMD Opteron 4133 both total max at peak. 95watts
no memory stated, 2 sticks or 8 sticks and no size.

the Radeon WX? what number , non stated. gaming?
wx2100 to 9100 , the latter uses 240watt all by it self.
A Nvidia, GTX1050 is 72watts, and runs any game and by far less cash !@!

memory. ddr3 is 15 to 32watts 4 or 8 sticks)

did you know some GPU cards use 300 watts alone?
the GPU card choice it totally based on your gaming needs, im sure you are not doing engineering simulations on this PC, nor video rendering work so is a gaming box. (after all you design any PC for worst case needs)

so question one is. watts peak
is as follows.
Asus does not spec out its power usage
only says you need 450watts or more.
this is based on 200 watts for 2 CPU.
so the mobo spec, is 250,
It say max on the mobo (chipset - cpu') 100 watts
so here is my tally.
mobo 100w
copu 100 (x2)200 (95 actual)
9100Wx, 250watts (roundedup) (at 550w) so far.
memory 32watts 8 sticks. were at 600 watts easy.
so we go a tad bigger, for margin of error reasons or bad luck. (add 100w) or 700 watts PSU. (q1 answered)
The total build tells me the power needs, and is not stated, only facts like that can one give good advice.
sorry if this is not accurate, but I did show my math.

the OS you run will be what apps you run
none stated
no jobs stated, tasks, purpose, or anything clear.
sorry but that is all I can do with vague inputs.

in linux, use nano editor
make full report of needs, then paste it here.
no need to use cell phone ever to type here on complex topics. ok?

How do I rebuild broken RAID 1?

If Raid is broken then logical drive will fail & will result in data loss.
enter into Smart Array Controller bios by pressing F8 & Recreate Raid 1 by selecting two working drives.

Mediashield rom bios 6.33 detecting array on the my screen

NO monitor told at all. nor any PC at all model told some kind of desktop sure, in photo above, but what/? NO TOLD
NO OS told ether and newer OS does not run on N_force chipsets.
that error is pure NVIDIA software for GPU same.
my wild guess
is COIN cell battery dead
and bios now lost 128bits of config data out of NVRAM CMOS>
and goes berserk as all do like that.
and the bits that control BIOS RAID ARRAY are gone ,lost
so it lies to you now (expected). thinking RAID is lost but was never ever used or enabled by you ever. BINGO CHAOS , BINGO FOR COIN
easy no? easy peasy lemon squeezy (new coin day)

MediaShield Rom BIOS 9.83 Copyright © 2007 nvidia corp detecting arrays..(means RAID drive system a HW option in this chip set)
it's a feature on vast PC and for sure business workstations and real servers. hw.

NO PC told so i fact I can know how old the PC is.
nor that dead coin cell at 5 to 7 years old and ignored that long.
  1. a new coin fitted first.
  2. reset bios inside bios
  3. turn off RAID (yeah)
  4. set time and date
  5. set boot order to HDD0 first.
  6. save key bios.
  7. exit bios
cold boot now cured/ fixed.
my wild guess a super old desktop, with DOA/EOL Nforce chip set that has no support at all now, and coin cell is dead.
and for sure is Nforce there (AMD chip set , now fully EOL)
the raid hot key is f10 , given to emachine bios makers for Nvidia Nforce relic RAID chip.
next time tell what PC this is and get faster, shorter and 10x more accurate answers.

The other answer is no hackers it is you not knowing what RAID means and not servicing the COIN cell before it fails.
RAID if enabled has 2 purposes
makes 2 drives or more, run super fast, than just 1.
or my RAID 6 mode to run 8 drives and 2 can fail and no data loss at all and runs perfectly (tad slower) "called production mode by geeks"
production means never goes down like servers use so well..
that is it lacking PC model.

now the reverse of all that
Say it was raid
the rules are so raid common,
he bios or raid F10 setups must show a RAID array there.
or you make one now.
the set setup a RAID now, There. say RAID 1 or ?
then save and cold boot and install the OS to the virtual drive raid0
if before the raid was working F10 into raid and enable it again after new coin cell and safe exit F10
and now set boot order to RAID ARRAY 0 OR AS IT WAS BEFORE THE LOSS.

(COMMON POST ON TOPIC)
You do not have the bios set correctly for the installer to sense it is available for use. Enable raid mode in bios setup. nForce Drivers WILL install the MediaSheild software!!!!!!!!!! The sata hdd's must also be configured into a NVidia Stripe at least using the bios sata/raid config. tool(F10 on my board) then nForce driver install should offer it up. I have no problems installing or removing EVEN ON MediaSheild from Dualboot XP-SP2 X86 or Vista x86.

Windows server 2008 raid setup on a dell poweredge 2850

2 drives indicates they are RAID 1, which are mirrored. 2 x 36GB = 36GB. This is an industry standard config. If you make any changes you will lose the array making it RAID 0 (no RAID - no longer hot swap), and or the complete loss of OS / data.

Instead make another logical drive for data storage. You need three or four drives to set up as RAID 5, again an industry standard config.

Make sure to back up in all instances. GL

Operating system corrupted how to recover the data

RAID is only to protect data in case of hard drive failure. Data is only recoverable from backup.

However, if you have a separate arrays for the OS and data. Meaning two arrays, you can swap arrays onto an identical server with same array configuration. Drive positions (bay /slot) are critical.
