Microsoft wireless optical desktop receiver has three lights, when those glow

The Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop 1000 hardware set includes the Microsoft Wireless MultiMedia Keyboard Version 1.1a, Microsoft Standard Wireless Optical Mouse Version 1.0a and the Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Receiver version 2.1a.
The receiver connects to your computer through a USB port.
The product installation CD that ships with the hardware set includes the software drivers that are required to install the Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop hardware on your Windows computer.

Insert the batteries that are included with the hardware set in the keyboard and mouse.
The battery installation latches are located on the bottom of the hardware devices.
Place the product installation CD in your computer's CD drive.
The hardware installation wizard will open automatically.

Plug the receiver into an open USB port on your computer when prompted.
Follow the wizard to synchronize the mouse and keyboard with the receiver.
Close the wizard when it finishes to complete the installation process.

check the batteries and then see if the usb is properly fixed in the port, the green light should be on =)

Microsoft wireless optical desktop receiver 2.1 model 1028 - varies from Rs. 1900-2200
Microsoft standard wireless optical mouse model 1025 - varies from Rs. 400-600
Microsoft wireless multimedia keyboard 1.1 model 1014 - varies from Rs. 700-900

The "A" represents caps lock, while "1" represents num lock and "F" represents function lock. You should try changing your mouse's batteries.

Install the proper driver for Keyboard optical receiver may solve your problem.

I do not know if you got your answer yet, but the 3 lights on the reciever unit indicate the following:

light on the left (under the "A" indicates that your caps lock is on
light in the middle (under the "1" indicates that your numbers lock is on
light on the right (under the semi-circle with verticle hash mark) indicates the power is on

you need to resync the mouse and keyboard to the wireless receiver. you hold the button down on the receiver until you see a flashing light and then you press the button on the bottom of the key board. then you do the same thing for the mouse.
