SOURCE: brand new dmr-ez49veb,has worked ok on setting it

i have a panasonic dvd rcorder / video combi model DMR-EZ49VEB. I have recorded something on DVD, which is 4 hours in duration, and I want to edit the recording and split it into parts. I follow the manual, but when I press EDIT the option to split isnt even there? I am confused, it is SUCH a difficult manual to deciphre, but the only 2 options there are "Edit title name" and "Change Thumbnail". The others are not listed. the disc is not copy protected or locked and is of sufficient duration to split the contents. HELP PLEASE :(

While playing a vhs tape, I only get sound, no picture. No problem with a dvd.

You may have a dirty video head, try a wet or dry cleaning tape (I recommend the dry tape) the other option is to use a brand new store bought tape T120, set vcr to sp "2hrs" and let it play the full time.

Vhs tapes recorded to DVD+R's

try forwarding the tape to the end and then rewind to the start again, this can help to seat the tape correctly on the spindle . the audio track part of the tape is in a specific region on the tape so misalignment may be the issue with those cassettes.

also try to press the tracking up and down when playing the video

Tapes not playing

Hey do the tapes play at all? sometimes some tapes recorded
on other machines won't play on others. maybe you need to adjust the tracking on the VCR you are playing it on. If the tape
was recorded on a VCR that is misaligned it might not play back
on another VCR. Also the tape may have been recorded on a
super VHS VCR in et (extended definition) mode if so they won't play on just any VCR. If the picture looks scrambled like a
premium channel on analog cable then it's probably recorded in et.
and if its recorded on super VHS tape it may eject out of your VCR.
They don't make these S-VHS vcrs anymore but people still
have them around. There is also Digital VHS they're not
compatible with VHS either. A VHS recorded in et mode will
play on some more expensive vcrs it should say so on the box
or instructions.

Noise while playing VHS

It sounds like the tape is cocked slightly. some VHS tapes did make noise. I'd take it to the store and show them the noise.

VHS Recording Tape

not much of a help but sounds like your record head is bad on the vhs heads,

use cleaning tape try that, if that fixes great, if it helps but not fully there, you might have to clean them by hand with very soft paper town and rubbing alcohol rub side to side very easy , if none of the above work you have a bad record head or record board, not worth repair vs cost
good luck

Used a wet VHS cleaner and now my VCR doesn't work right. Help!!

The VHS cleaning cassette possibly deposited fiber in the heads in the drum. You may need to open the cabin and examine the heads and the mechanism for foreign matterial.
