I have a Denon AVR-2802 that has suddenly stopped playing audio. I'm also using the unit to switch video sources to the monitor, and the video works great. Also the audio circuitry is still able to detect whether it's getting the 5+1 digital signal from my DVD or the analog stereo signal from the cable box; just can't hear any audio.

Check your audio cables,, maybe you have a speaker switch turned off. Or a source selection switch, or even a mute switch?

SOURCE: I have a Denon AVR

Your reciever sounds like it has a genuine problem with it's DSP chip. This will require professional service.

I have a denon 2802 av receiver, i bought it second hand and I can't seem to get the component video in / out working. Are you supposed to just plug it in and it works? Because I can't find any buttons or settings to select component in / out as my input / output sources?

After playing my AVR-2802 Denon a while approx 3-4 hrs the sound output juts turns off, after letting it cool down a while it will resume playing ok , then repeats the cycle of loss of audio output.

Seems to be a heat related issue, when it " cools down " awhile it resumes audio output? Be sure you are allowing air circulation around the receiver, I am note sure but I do not think Denons have inboard fans, you could try a ciculating air fan on the unit after playing it for a couple of hours if the receiver feels hot.
