We bought a Dvd/Vcr combo and we are unable to hook it up to our Zenith TV. The problem is that the new combo unit doesn't have a S-video or wire, and our TV does. Our previous DVD player did and it worked fine. "S-video" is the only option on the menu when switching from cable. Now we are unable to get a picture on the TV. We have perfect sound, just no video.
Your TV should also have a regular composite video input jack (yellow) in addition to the s-video input. Use that input instead of the s-video. The video won't be quite as clear as with s-video, but you have to work with what the combo gives you.
Now I'm a little confused. A cable box may have RCA jacks for audio and video on the back, but they are outputs for a TV or recorder. I've never seen a box which takes an input, so I don't know why your old DVD would have been connected to the box.
All the Zenith sets I've worked on offered both normal video and s-video inputs as choices when they had those connections. I'm wondering now if there's something wrong with the TV itself. It's a pain not being able to see the setup for myself.
Have you tried unplugging the TV, letting it sit for a few minutes, then plugging it back in? This resets the computer in the TV and sometimes that can clear up funny behavior. Also check the setup menus and see if there is anything controlling normal or s-video selection.
As a last-ditch solution, you can use an RF converter. This takes the a/v signals from the player and produces a channel 3 or 4 output signal that you can tune in on the TV. It won't give the same quality picture and sound, but it would work.
Sorry. I guess I'm striking out on this one.

We did that & still got no picture. It's like the TV won't do video without the S-wire. We even mixed & matched wires, attaching different ones to the TV & the cable box. We attached the s-wire from the TV to the cable box, thinking that somehow, since the DVD player was also attached to the cable box, that it would operate through the box. No go.
