I recently connected my tv, vcr, dvd player and converter box. I lost my sylvania tv remote and purchased a philips universal remote. I am able to get the tv to go into game mode. However, when I insert a dvd, it plays and I can hear... but I cannot see anything. How do I get my game mode to allow me to hear and see movies on my dvd player and vcr?
I have to confess that I am not technologically savvy. However, I checked my tv and it has the yellow, white and red jacks on the front and in the rear. I have the respective wires connected in them. I also checked my dvd player and the both sets of jacks are connected with their respective wires. So I guess the long wended answer to your suggestion is no... at least I don' think so. Any other assistance will be greatly appreciated.I have to confess that I am not technologically savvy. If the DVD works through this "box". Things are looking alright. There must be a number of inpus or hookups to connect VCRs or DVDs or what ever to this "box" that then allow you to hook tp the TV.
If this is the case there has to be a way to swithc the box to the different things hooked to this box so that you can see& hear them.
I do not know what this box is, but can only guess you need to get the manual or more info on how it works.
If you can try to hook each one of your pieces seperately to the box.
First unhook the DVD that works, and hook the VCR. If works, unhook the VCR and hook up the the enxt piece. That way you'll know if each of them is working.
3/23/09 --- I don't understand why you would hook your converter box or antenna to your DVD Player. Converter box is only functional between an antenna and a vcr (and/or a TV). DVD Player hooks directly to TV (NOT thru a vcr, coding on dvd discs will screww up the signal and make it fade!) Good luck.
It took some time, but I finally have this figured it out so everything works.
I have the same setup, but I had one additional piece to the puzzle that I had to figure out. I have an older TV and use and antenna, but had to buy an Audio/Video RF Modulator a couple of years ago to use my VCR & DVD player with the old setup.
Get yourself an Audio/Vido RF Modulator (you can pick one up for about $20-30).
Connect the TV to the RF Modulator.
You should have 2 connectors for your antenna. Connect one to the converter "To Ant" and the other to the RF Modulator.
Connect the convertor A/V cable to "IN" on your VCR.
Connect the cable from converter "To TV (RF)" to "UHF/VHF from Ant" on VCR.
Connect the VCR "OUT" cable to the RF Modulator.
Connect DVD A/V cables to A/V input on VCR.
Your TV should be set to Channel 3 (or 4, depending on your setup) and depending on your "input" connections, you should be able to view vidoes from VCR like this and DVD by changing the input (the button should be on your VCR or other remote). For ex. my input changes on my VCR from channels, to L1 & L2. My converter & VCR play on L1 and DVD's play when I change it to L2.
Now, I just have to figure out how to add the converter box to my universal remote. :)
Good luck!
Yes you can first connect the converter box to the antenna first. Next hook the tv out on converter box to vcr in on vcr. Next hook the vcr out to the tv in and watch vcr and converter box on channel 3 sometimes channel 4.on the actual tv and of course change channels with converter box remote. For dvd player hook it straight to tv with red, white, and yellow cables that come with your dvd player. Then to watch dvd player if it's hooked up that way you have to put your tv on a input like video 1 or input 1. This can be done by using the tv remote and looking for a button that says tv/video or input or source button. This is some common names for that button on tv remotes.
Some have a tv or vcr mode, some have a game button,, or go to setup and just go through all the options,, sometimes ull find it ,,, up down channel and vol.. up and down,, just keep hittin buttons u might connect with it...they are all different....specially universals,,, do u have the right #s for the universal in it? shut it all down and try it again..??? sry if im wrong just tryin to help.. Ill look for more if u have no luck if u want....
Can you describe how the DVD and VCR were connected prior to the converter box when they were working? I need to know that in order to guide you properly.
