I have a Uniden TRU9488 which has a corded base with cordless extension handsets. This unit has worked flawlessly for years. Suddenly last night, I couldn't get a dial tone and all 9 units displayed an "in use" message. My DSL works though. I've tried everything I can think of. Unplugging everything from their power sources and phone jacks, swapping out old phone cords with new ones, removing all handset batteries, hard reset of base and finally plugging in a plain old landline phone with no success - still no dial tone. I reported the problem to my phone company today. Within minutes of scheduling a service call, I got a dial tone but within 30 seconds it switched to the annoying alert you get when the phone is off the hook and the dial tone never returned. I was hoping to avoid the potentially pricey service call! Any insights into what might be going on would be much appreciated!

Light stays on in the base unit and light flashes on handset. No messages--all have been retrieved.

If your charge light is flashing and you have no messages on your answering system, you may have voicemail. Voicemail is provided by your telephone company and they would be able to assist you with retrieving those messages.

I have a Uniden cordless phone #D2CT 6.0--I love the phone but the party on the other end of the line can barely hear me -how can I fix this or this a bad phone???

At 20 ft line of sight, you should have perfect reception with most any cordless phone.

The fuzzy signal can indicate:
1.
A weak signal between base and handset.
20 ft line of sight should have a good strong signal.
Your handset may be defective.
Or, your handset battery may be weak.
Your base unit may be defective.

2.
You may be experiencing RFI Interference.
Is the base unit next to any other electronic devices?
If it is next to a wireless router or some other wireless device, it may be overloaded by the nearby signal (even if on a different frequency)

I've got a 5 year old Panasonic 5.8 Ghz cordless phone connected to my VoIP box. I just tested it from about 25 ft away from the base unit in another room with a wall in between and my reception is perfect.

I did the same test with my Panasonic DECT 6.0 phones (1.9 GHz). The first handset is slightly fuzzy, but otherwise good signal. The 2nd handset was perfectly quiet with good strong signal. So, there is a difference between two identical handsets connected to the same base unit. This indicates to me that one handset is better tuned than the other. Nothing I can do about that but get a new 2nd extension cordless handset. Sometimes, it's just luck of the draw

Uniden 5.8ghz cordless W/2handsets has no dial tone cannot call out or recieve calls

There can be a lot of different things that could cause this. The first thing I would do is disconnect the telephone cord from the Uniden phon eand connect it to another telephone and see if you get a dial tone from it. If you do then we know that the telephon eline and the cord are OK so we go back to the Uniden telephone. Next, does the unit light up when you plug it in? are you sure that the telephone is getting AC Power? Are the displays on the handsets working? Does the handset display show "Handset XX" or does it show "Searching"? If it shows "Handset XX" then the base unit is getting power, if not the base unit may not be getting power.
If the base unit is getting power and the handsets are working and the power cord and jack were proven good by conecting another phone to them, then you would need to call uniden Customer Service for further trouble shooting or repair/replacement. the number is 1-800-297-1026

Uniden dxai 4288-2

most multi-phone systems require you to dock the phone in the main cradle to sync it up with the system. not sure if you tried this already but it's pretty simple to do. just insert handswt 1 into the main base (answering machine) then remove it and plug the second hand set into the main base. you also have to keep in mind thatr when you answer the cakk with say handset one the only way you can use the second handset is by transferring the call. if your phones handsets are equipt with a transfer button then that may the problem

Uniden cordless phone

Hello, While I cannot locate that model in any Uniden database (you might want to find the literature), It sounds as if the handset may be communicating with its base, but you have lost the dial tone. Did any storms pass through recently? Here is what you do. Go to your base and push the locator button on your base station to call the handset via the page/locator function. If it rings the handset and you can answer it okay then you know your handset is working well and communicating with your base (the radio portion is working correctly). If it does not ring your handset then your Uniden is definately bad (radio wise). But, I am going to guess that it is okay but you still cannot communicate with the outside world and dial out to get dial tone or get an incoming call. Okay, so we have a dial tone problem. The next step is to see if dial tone is getting to your base. So you will need to take another good telephone, preferably a handy "line powered" telephone (no batteries or ac adapter needed) you can use in a power failure emergency. Take that good phone and plug it into the phone cord you unplug from your Uniden base. If you get dial tone, then your uniden does need repair. If it does not get dial tone, then you have a bad cord, jack or something in your phone wiring. If thats the case, change cords, look for corrosion, dirt or bent pins in the jack on the wall. My guess is that your Uniden has gone bad, likely from a slight surge on the phone line. If you do need your Uniden repaired you can contact Uniden they are at http://www.uniden.com/repair/service.cfm , however I don't believe they offer repair, but offer to sell you a replacement. Or you can go to www.cordlessrepair.com where you can get your Uniden Cordless unit repaired, not exchanged. Good Luck, CG
