Igniter not glowing - Whirlpool LGR7648KQ Dryer

The thermostat allows power to the igniter. The igniter heats up and warms the radiant sensor, which sends power to open the gas valve.

Check if igniter glows. If not, check for power to the igniter. If no power, check thermostat. If igniter has power and won't glow, its bad.

If igniter glows, check power to gas valve. No power, bad radiant sensor. If gas valve has power and won't open, its bad.

Ignite r is bad if amp draw is to low on ignition glow will still glow but its telling the brain its not glowing so valve will not open change glow or thermo coupler it should solve your problem

most oven igniters dont spark at all. they have "glow bars" that are connected to a gas safety valve. the bar will glow red hot and once it pulls enough amps it will tell the gas valve in the oven to open up and when the gas hits the hot glow bar it will ignite. the glow bar can still glow red and the valve wont open. it is still a bad glow bar because it's not drawing enough amps. if you replace this part yourself do not touch the actual "element" with you hands because it will cause it to break the first time you use it. you can only touch the base.

When you turn the oven on, open the oven door and look down at the bottom and see if its glowing red, it should glow red for about 45-60 seconds then you should hear the gas ignite. If the gas doesn't ignite, then your igniter glow bar is bad.

If the ignitor glows that means everything in the assembly is working and has continuity, so why doe the gas not light? Solution:
The coils are weak. Replace them.

Chances are the hot surface glow igniter is not working. Most likely it is burned out. Set the controls to dry in high heat and note if the glowing coil does in fact glow. If not, it needs to be replaced. Open the burner access door and then turn the dryer on. Watch inside the burner compartment for the glow coil to light up and glow. If all the controls are set correctly on the front control panel and the dryer is running, but the glow coil fails to glow, you've located the defective part. The glow coil will need to be replaced.
To remove the coil, turn off the gas first. Unplug the dryer from the electrical wall plug. Then remove the entire gas valve as an assembly. The nut on the gas valve to remove it from the gas supply pipe turns counter clockwise. There will be small sheet metal screws used to secure the plate to which the burner assembly parts are attached. The plate holds the entire assembly and is attached to the bottom of the dryer's cabinet.
Next, remove the glow coil from the burner assembly. Take the entire assembled part to the local appliance retail parts store for a replacement coil. Glow igniters are fragile and they break easily. Handle and install the new igniter carefully. Glow igniters are a non-returnable and non-refundable electric component.
Be advised that some new replacement igniters do not come with quick disconnect ends. In this case, it is OK to cut off the quick, disconnect from the old igniter and attach it to the new igniter. Simply clip off the wires several inches above, disconnect the old igniter, attach to the wires of the new igniter, and wire nut the two ends together. Repeat the process to attach the other set of wires and wire nut them together. There is no positive nor negative polarity to be concerned with.

do you see the igniter glowing if so it is probably the thermocouple

Without an amp meter to measure the drop on the coil I use a long screwdriver and tap the handle end on the valve coils while the ignitor is glowing. IF the burner lights the problem is the ignitor. Either way its either a coil or the ignitor.

How old is the unit? Sometimes the igniter can glow but if it isn't drawing the right amount of power to open the gas valve then that is the safety that is built into the oven... So unless the power requirement is meant gas valve will not light. Even though the hot surface igniter is glowing red hot. chances are the igniter is bad. Let me know what turns up. ken

HI i would replace the gas igniter in the oven. when a glow coil comes on. its suppose to glow a white hot glow. that then ignites all the gas. when its failing it glows an orange color. and that's not hot enough . replace the igniter. the appliance doc please rate my answer.
