What hard drive will work with my NEC PowerMate 5250?

I have a NEC PowerMate 5250 it is the Pentium 111 and it currently has an 8GB hard drive that is low on space. I wanted to install a 40-100GB hard drive. I tried a Maxtor 40GB that I had laying around but the BIOS could not detect it. I tried to move the jumper to CS and DS MASTER since it is the only hard drive in the PC I didnt set it as slave.

Basically I need a list of compatible hard drives that will work with my machine.

You would need to get the manual for this computer as the manual should state in it what type of hard drive it supports in terms of capacity and what connector types it needs ie IDE or SATA ?

Also are there any bios updates for this computers motherboard as that may resolve you not being able to attach a large capacity hard drive also in the bios see if you can enable LBA (logical block addressing ) http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/bios/modesLBA-c.html or there may be another setting in the bios which may help you.

How to view files from old NEC versa 4050c. hard drive op-220-62005

They don't make them like that any more!

The Service Manual lists it as a standard IDE drive. Your best bet is to take it to a local computer shop. They can remove the drive and add it to a test bench set up, then transfer all the data to a pen drive as the hard drive is only 2.1 Gb.

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/366990/Nec-Versa-4000.html?page=42&term=hard+drive&selected=3#manual

Or use the power supply from another old computer, as the connector plugs should be the same, 12 volt and 5 volt.

Or get another on eBay

NEC Versa 4050c 90mhz Pentium laptop off eBay for $25 shipped. It has a 2.1gb drive, 40mb of ram. It came with a docking station.

Hi
Have you tried your hard drive on another machine?Or maybe tried another hard drive on your machine?
Could well be a faulty hard drive.
Also try disconnecting the hard drive and connecting it again.

XP does not have most audio drivers. Go to NEC and download the drivers.

Powermate Eco Hard Drive Crashed

Hello

instructions on how to remove and replace the hard drive are on this PDF document.

http://support.necam.com/mobilesolutions/hardware/Desktops/eco/819-201002-000med.pdf

You will need a pdf reader to open the document, if you are unable to open it download a pdf reader here
http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/

Can you remove the hard drive from the computer, write down the details that read on top of it, and also if you could look at the connectors and tell me the details so I can make sure I direct you at a proper replacement.

Thank you,
Ekse
