I have a NEC PowerMate 5250 it is the Pentium 111 and it currently has
an 8GB hard drive that is low on space. I wanted to install a 40-100GB
hard drive. I tried a Maxtor 40GB that I had laying around but the BIOS
could not detect it. I tried to move the jumper to CS and DS MASTER
since it is the only hard drive in the PC I didnt set it as slave.
Basically I need a list of compatible hard drives that will work with my machine.
You would need to get the manual for this computer as the manual should state in it what type of hard drive it supports in terms of capacity and what connector types it needs ie IDE or SATA ?
Also are there any bios updates for this computers motherboard as that may resolve you not being able to attach a large capacity hard drive also in the bios see if you can enable LBA (logical block addressing ) http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/bios/modesLBA-c.html or there may be another setting in the bios which may help you.
