11 year old dryer, worked great whole time until recently. Shuts off early like it has over heated. You then can not turn it back on until 10- 20 minutes later. Faint smell of something burning. Clothes are o.k. in drawer just smell it. Maybe something caught in the pipe.
Don't know if this is the model, however it is a whirlpool super size electric dryer.
Check the vent for clogging condition that will turn off unit and cause it to overheat. If vent goes up to roof check up there also - that is where mine was clogged with a sort of paper mache clog!!!!!

generally if the uint shuts off from overheating and then will not restart for a 10-20 min period of time usually a sign htat hte motor is overheating and needs repalcing

Most dryers have more than one thermostat.
Most likely, the operating thermostat has failed, but the high limit thermostat is working and turns off the machine when it gets too hot. When it cools down it will start again and run briefly. If the high limit thermostat fails, the thermal fuse will permanently stop the dryer to prevent a fire.

inside dryer there is 2 metal strips clean tham off with a eraser if that dont cure it make sure vent clean going out of your home if both are done and still does it depends on dryer if its a sencer are control board
