Need a little more info. To charge a battery and this goes for all batteries you must have a higher input voltage than what the batt. Is rated. For example a car battery is rated at twelve volts. To charge your battery the alternator applies about 13.4volts. So if you charger is under voltage it won't charge past the equal amount of charge in the battery. The main charge unit that holds all the energy and allows charge current to store this energy, could have had internal components come lose or no longer can store and hold it's charge due to over charging, overheating, to just use through out years.

Hi Steve. It is best to store any battery with a positive charge. Any battery that is completely drained starts a reverse electrolysis process that has a battery internal corrosion effect and will drastically affect the life of the battery. As long as there is some form of a charge in the battery when you store them (preferrably a 40% charge or more) the battery will be fine. If you have ever opened an old flashlight that had dead batteries in it, you would have seen the rusty red goo that forms on the ends of the batteries and destroys the battery contacts. It does not matter if the battery type is lead acid, Ni-Cad. or Lithium, the dead battery reverse electrolysis process will begin at ZERO charge. Just make sure there is a minimal charge (hopefully 40% or above) in the battery and you should be able to store them for up to 30 days with no problem as long as the batteries do not have any internal problems.

Store it full charge. If you store it low charge, then battery life will be compromised. Research and tests have proven that storing batteries full charged will extend its life. Also make sure that you charge stored batteries every 3 months to further extend its life.

Two things can be wrong, first your batts may be old and need new ones. Have them load tested at an auto part store. Most powerchairs use two 12 volt batts. If you batts are good you should have between 12.5 and 13.5 volts on a surface charge and 11.5 to 12.5 on a load test charge. Second, if you had your chair stored away for a couple of months then your batts died and need to be replaced. If you are luck a "boost charge" might work. If you are planing to keep it stored for months at a time, you must charge the chair once every couple of weeks to keep batts fresh.
