Hello! I recently dug my classic NES system out of the closet, and playing it I've had problems with the sound. The games work fine, but there is a loud static sound like the "snow" sound, that fades in and out during gameplay. Several games used, all do the same thing. We tried using a new RF connector cable and also switching from use of the RF cable to the red & yellow a/v connections - no change. We think it's the console, but not sure if a thorough cleaning will do the job or if additional repair may be needed. Any suggestions?

try switching both the tv and the rf switch to ch.4, if that doesn't help make sure that there is nothing connected to the in port on the rf switch and try it again, also make sure the connector of the rf switch has a straight pin and not bent too badly, also make sure the pin does not look tarnished/corroded in any way, also check the connector at the end that connects to the nes, i would try changing the rf adapter before the console, if the power cord is in good shape everything else should be easy to find a replacement for. if you hae a snes try changing the rf adapters, or try using rca type cables, the out ports are on the side of the nes and most likely on the back or front of your tv.

same thing happen to me today, exact same thing on cod4 then i got the E-74 error code.. i thought it was my HDMI cord so i put in the orginal HD component cables.. turned it back on then i got the error message E-74.....the best thing to do is call mircosoft or go online and set up a fixer....becuase there is nothing to do... overheating it with towels works for a while maybe an hour or so then it's the same MATRIX lines... turn it off then the error message appears...if your handy and trust yourself or impatient then take it apart...its ton of videos online to help you...as for me ill wait...but it really sucks since madden comes out in an hour:(...good luck!!!!!

i had the same problem, and it was the rf unit itself. to resolve this problem i went to radio shack and purchased a special connecter. one side is an rca (male) to rf (female). when attached to a standard peice of cable wire, it acts as an rf unit. Also works with the sega genesis. hope that helped

You may have to face the possibility that the NES internal graphics card is old and now irreparably damaged. Unless you can procure and install another one, then the console may just be on its last legs
