It sounds that the synchronization separator section is faulty. In all modern sets, the section will be a circuit part inside the main IC. Therefore, check out, and replace that IC.

Testimonial: "I'm not familiar with that term. I just acquired an actual service manual, so I'll look for it in there. Or maybe you are referring to the LA7841 Vertical Deflection Output IC? Mine had some bad solder. Too bad fixing the connections didn't solve the problem."

SOURCE: Sanyo 25" Standard Tube Vertical Deflection Problem

you can proceed as follow to fix it.

  1. reduce brightness to minimum to avoid screen burn.
  2. check voltage on vertical uotput
  3. check yoke connector for loose.
  4. check v/yoke winding.
  5. check v/drive from signal processor to vertical output

now your problem how to find out whether drive is there or not it is very simple even you donot have scope.

you simply touch with screw driver or meter prob  at the poibt where vertical signal is input to vertical stage

if h/line is spreadindg or tries to spread then your output is ok &problem is in drive ckt.

for schematic try given site give model no &download it

P46820BL RCA TV 41'' - NO PICTURE

As a rule you may have a bad vertical IC and this set will shut the picture down to protect the picture tubes. Second rule..you most of all have a horizontal deflection problem. An open coil, bad resistor, a bad electrolytic capacitor, a retrace cap or diode. Maybe a bad ground on the horizontal transformer. I would guess it is in the horizontal deflection. So the the second rule would be my first concern. Take this baby to the doctor and be sure to ask them to warrant the work, so you don't have to pay again for a second repair!

Thin horizontal line of picture

that is a vertical deflection circuit problem. try to check a 470 UF capacitor connected to the vert. yoke coil if it is open or try resoldering the nconnecrtion at the board. if not, try to replace the B+ filter of the vertical amplifier. another is try to chexk if the vertical moscillator is qworking if you know elecrtonics.
