Re: I seemed to have erased the maps from my tomtom .
I was able to get a free-redownload for my TomTom by calling TomTom tech support and talking with them for a while. They are very supportive! You can find a number to call for your region at tomtom.com Please rate, thanks!

If/when you've just purchased a (brand) new TomTom GPS, you can register it (at the TomTom.com website) and download the latest map (for your device) .... free ... as part of the latest map guarantee. Whenever you connect your GPS to the TomTom website (via TomTom HOME), you'll get (free) updates to your current map version - ... but they are NOT new versions of the maps. To get new versions of your (current) map, you'll need to purchase the update (e.g. online, on the TomTom website). Upon paying for it, you will get the activation codes, etc. for you to download, validate and install the maps.
If your GPS has lifetime maps, (after you have registered), you'll be able to connect (via TomTom HOME) to get the latest map release, without requiring any code/password.
If you know where the backup is stored in your computer, right click on it and copy it. plug in the tomtom, then you can close the tomtom program when it autostarts on plugin, then go to my computer and right click and open the tomtom manually like a normal usb device. Find the same map file in the tomtom and right click and paste your copy of your backup. Make sure you copy the file on the tomtom to a folder somewhere first in case there's any kind of incompatability and you have to revert back to how it is now. Hope this helps
I do some work with TomTom - it's possible that if something interrupted or went wrong during the install, the map could have been deleted. TomTom is aware of the problem and is working to fix it - if you are map-less, call support (866 486 6866) and we can work on getting you a new map.
Hi, First you need to have the relivent map on your SD card. Typicly this will be the Tomtom Map " Western Europe ". When you purchase maps from TomTom you also get an activation code and instructions telling you how to install the map onto your device and how to authorise it using the code that comes with it. Before doing anything ... BACK-UP your existing data ( the whole SD card ) onto your computer . This will ensure that if any update is unsuccesful you can at least return things to the way they were before you tried to update. There are several ways to obtain maps
buy a new TOMTOM SD card for your tomtom that containes the required maps. Make sure it comes with the authorisation card.
buy a CD from TomTom or a TomTom authorised dealer . This CD will contain the required map so you can download the required map to your own SD card. Make sure it comes with the authorisation code AND instructions.
buy the required map from TomTom online . You can download it to your PC , then copy it onto your SD card later. It will come with some instructions and authorisation code ...... You can also use "TomTom Home" software and this does most of the job of downloading maps ( that you buy from tomtom ) and puts them onto your sd card for you in a semi-automatic way . If you go down this route then its best to be sure you have the latest version of TomTom home software by going to the TomTom website first.
With ANY of the above methods------- BACK UP your existing SD card first . In fact ... make a BACK UP NOW , then if anything goes wrong at any time , you can at least revert back to your backup.
You cannot take maps from one TomTom and put them on another TomTom. The maps are coded to that particular TomTom. It would seem the only option left to you is to purchase another map from TomTom.
The problem with that approach is that you cannot transfer maps from another device onto yours without product key activation codes. This is to prevent piracy or abuse of maps on individual devices.
This TomTom comes loaded with 2 maps....Guam and the US with Canada. I too got stuck in Guam and it is not obvious how to get out of it. But here it is.
Go to Main Menu, then Change Preferences
Hit forward arrow twice
Go to Manage Maps
Hit forward arrow once and choose Switch Map
It should show you Guam and the US and Canada
Tap US and Canada and it should take you out of Guam!!
Mine did and I am now going to delete the Guam map.
What is happening is your map updates are being copied onto your memory card without overwriting the old maps hence you are running out of memory.
In the tomtom home browser you should be able to delete your old map before installing the new one. Make sure you have a back up of the map card before you try this though so you can reinstall if something goes wrong.
Also have you replaced the voice prompts on your tomtom? The voice files take up a lot of memory so if you have put new ones one without removing the old ones you will be wasting memory.
There is one window in TThome that lists eveything installed on yuor card so have a good look at this and see what you can get rid of.
After being connected to HOME on the internet we seem to have lost our maps as well. It comes up and says no maps found. How can we get them back?
