You have a limit switch that is tripping. I bet it is the flame roll out switch that is very close to the burners. You can bypass this switch to check if it is the one causing the problem by removing the two wires going to it and installing a small jumper wire between them. If the unit starts up, then that's the problem and if not, check all of them. But that's pretty much the only thing it can be. But, you need to double check that the unit is being told to come on and not cutting out intermittently. I doubt it though!

Replaced ignator and flame sensor. Heater comes on normally but flame only stays on for 10 to 15 seconds. Faullt blinks 3 times. It will blink 3 times for about 30 seconds. Then re-cycles again.

Sounds like your you may have a dirty pilot assembly if your unit is a direct spark system. Also check ground wires are secure.

It sounds like the flame sensor is bad. If thats not the case you may need to replace the control board. You should make sure the flame sensor is directly into the flame.

On a gas dryer the heat normally only comes on for 30 seconds or until the drum temp reaches 160f at which time the flame is shut down by the cycling thermostat. The drum temp then starts to drop. When the drum temp reaches 105f then another blast of heat is issued for 30 more seconds. That is how they work. Put it all back together and trow a load in there.

Furnace kicks on but the gas stays on for about 6 seconds and then shuts off and repeats this two more times and then stays off for 20 minutes and then starts all over again

This tells me that its either an ignitor or flame sensor. You will need to check to see if the ignitor is working by watching it when the unit comes on and if its not then replace the control board for the ignitor or the ignitor itself. If it is coming on then its the flame sensor. Sounds like the ignitor though. I would check that. These go back on a reg. basis.
Feedback is apprec. Thanks.

Could be flame sensor. I dirty flame sensor will cause this problem. Flame sensor is rod that is in burner, should be able to remove and clean with steel wool or dollar bill. Usually has white film on sensor preventing it from reading flame. Not sure how American Standard is but sensor normally has 1 screw holding into place in burner box. If you can get at it, it is easy to clean.

Heat will not stay on. Burners come on and go off. It is the American Standard 80 system.

Your flame sensor is dirty. Look inside the burner compartment and look at the last burner in line. you will see a wire like probe sticking in the flame. That is the flame sensor turn your unit off at t-stat now remove the sensor and remember the way you take it out. This is a simple fix so don't worry. Take some steel wool and gently rub, clean the probe only takes few strokes to clean. Now replace the sensor and turn unit back on. Should come right on and be good to go. let me know how it comes out okay. ken

try using a jumper wire between w and red on the stat subbase. that will take the stat out of the equation , if it has a bad heat anticipator etc. if furnace fires every time and stays on stat is the problem be sure glow ignitor is positioned in the flame after lighting as it proofs flame on some models . also look for a needle like sensor sticking into the flame on some it also proofs flame. you can gently remove and clean with sand cloth and theyll work sometimes but best to replace if to coroded.
