I bought this portable DVD player 2 years ago but after a few months of having it all of a sudden when I would go to turn it on it would not come on. I charged the battery and everything. It was working fine playing DVD's at first then out of nowhere it stopped. Any suggestions?
I've had mine for four years now and I occasionally get the 'no disc' message. On mine, the problem seems to be with the sensor that checks if the cover is closed. It's a round cylinder white in color, about the diameter of a toothpick, located near the lower-left corner. Anyway, after opening the unit and tinkering with it a little bit, I found if I just tilt base of the DVD player a little bit as it is reading a disc I can get the player to work. Yes, it sounds hokey, but it works for me everytime I get the 'no disc' message.
On a related note, does anybody have a dead IDM-1731 they don't want? I would like to replace the LCD bezel on mine. If you have one, please send me an email, five_hole @ hotmail. Thanks!

After inserting a DVD, "no disc" appears on monitor. I tried all of the recommended steps in the troubleshooting section of the user's manual - to no avail. The unit is never left in an environment that is below 50 degrees F, so I don't understand why we are experiencing this problem. It's not like we used the unit extensively either. We've had the IDM-1731 portable DVD player for about 2 years now.
I've tried adjusting the battery to tighten it but no luck. I got the screen to work but when I moved the unit, it went out again.
