Receiver does not remember settings

I have a Denon 1603. When I plug off my receiver from the wall socket for say a minute, reconnect and switch it on, the receiver forgets all its previous settings. This does not happen all the time though, but 6 out of 10 times I switch it on, it does. Also I have noticed that the distance units have changed over from metric (metres) to imperial (feet) and vice versa whenever this happens. I have tried resetting to factory settings, but the problem persists. Any clue what might be going on?

Does this unit have a battery that remembers programmed settings? Or is there something else terribly wrong? The part that puzzles me the most is the swapping between metres to feet each time the unit forgets its settings.

Thanks Michaelg for leaving a possible solution. Appreciate it. A new unit costs $600 in India. Do you know where I can find the chip's model number (maybe a url perhaps) so I can shop around for it? I tried googling with not much help.

It is either the capacitor that is used to for memory or more likely the main CPU chip. If that is the problem you can just leave it plugged in and on or buy a new unit because that chip is expensive.

Hooked up the subwoofer and it doesnt work at all is the a subwoofer on and off button for this receiver

No, you have to follow the procedures in the manual to inform the unit that there is a subwoofer, then select some parameters on how it is used depending on the functional sizes of your other speakers.

Hi, I'd like to use my Denon at overseas where

There should be a switch that you could set to the various voltages. Normally a round switch in one of the corners on the rear panel that you can turn with a flat screwdriver

No audio thru receiver with xbox360

Get some audio cables from radio shack or gamestop and use the regular audio jacks on the xbox to connect to your receiver.  Your video will be HD, but your audio won't.

Vinyl on Turntable sounds thin and trebley through Denon AVR-1603

You will need an adapter amp which converts the tiny tiny signal from a magnetic phono cartridge up to the line level that you need to feed into your AUX input jacks. They cost about $20 to $30 dollars and can be found at Radio Shack. Unless of course you have a phono input jack on the back of your Denon unit. Good luck.

Denon AVR3300 - Resetting activated Protection Circuit

Hi
Remove all speakers cables or wires and check all from behind the Receiver. if there are any loose terminals or any metal object in between the terminals.
though it might be a coincidence that you have a problem in the Receiver.
unplug the power cable from the wall socket and remove all cables.

after you remove the cables plug the power cable in the wall socket and try if you see the protection displayed , the receiver needs service.
Good Luck

Denon AVR 1603 goes to stand by mode

It has a blown channel, unless you are good at repairing them I suggest an authorized Denon service center. This Denon not only needs the shorted output transistors replaced, but a few resistors, a couple of driver transistors and a capacitor on the preamp board as well. alot of parts to be replaced. I have repaired about a hundred of these over the last few years and my shop charges about $200 for this repair, other shops should be about the same.
