For the over voltage there is an adjustment on the control board.
Should be tested with a load something plugged in.
The hertz might just come on when under load and adjusted too.
If you need more give a model number and whether it is 13kw or 40kw.

Testimonial: "I see an adjust ment on the votage regulator but I didnt know what voltage to set it to ,I read somewhere that the Hertz needed to be adjusted first then the voltage, the model is a 004748-0 ser is 3655247,you say its high ,would high votage couse a starter to engage after running already"

SOURCE: Bought new XP8000e

Most people don't buy a transfer switch because they cost almost as much as the generator. Lowe's sells a very inexpensive one that will work for most people. It is made by GE and costs $92. Lowe's Item #: 42210 Model: TM860S. Good for 60 amps and 8 circuits. It takes standard GE half size breakers but includes the 60 amp main breakers (which are also standard but make use of a novel device that ensures you can't send power back up the pole). It's a great little design and if a breaker ever fails, you can get a replacement at Lowe's or Home Depot.

SOURCE: No voltage output

It is possible that your voltage regulator is shot but before purchasing the volt regulator try flashing the fields first and make sure the brushes and rings are clean.

SOURCE: my standby generator is just cranking but wont turn all the way

If it was installed only five months ago, it should still be under warranty. Call Home Depot and have them send out a repair person.

I got a Generac GP8000E generator from the US. The Manual says the generator supplies electrical power of 120 and/or 240 volts AC, 30amp, single phase, 60Hz. I need an output of 240V 50Hz. Help Please

You need a frequency converter - however, these are not cheap since they are intended for industrial applications - usually rated to drive motors. Depending on the device that you are driving, you might be able to adapt it for a DC input and convert the generator output to DC, or modify it to accept a 60 Hz input.

I have a 20kw generac standby generator, where the starter tries to engage after the generator starts up and is running. Only has 316 running hours. Installed new starter in 2016.

The starter pinion drive gear is sticking.... its the smaller gear on the shaft that moves up and down to engage the flywheel gear and start the motor. Carefully put a LITTLE hi temp grease on the shift splines (curved ones) and see how much that helps. The gear is not staying "retracted"..if this doesn't help.. the spring that pushes the gear back down may not be strong enough...(you could always fix both)

What kind of oil do you use

Judy, Generac portable generator oil recommendations. Above 40°F, use SAE 30. Below 40°F and down to 10°F, use 10W-30. Below 10°F, use synthetic 5W-30. Oil should be changed after the first 8 hours of operation and every 200 hours of run time thereafter.

What size generator do I need to run a 10 hp motor

on the plate attached to the motor you will find several important items
one is the wattage of the motor
this is the maximum wattage that the motor uses when under load
the gen set will need to be at least 30% bigger than that figure
next there will the number of phases that the motor is
it will read as 1 ph or 3ph
If it is 1ph that is a single phase motor and will ru from a single phase gen set
however if it is 3ph you will need a 3ph gen set to run the motor
As most single phase motors are limited to around 5hp I would be very sure that the motor is not 3ph
specialist advice from an accredited electrician or electrical motor shop is recommended before buying a gen set. as if you need 3ph the gen sets become expensive.

I purchased a generac 22 kw 3 phase 120/240 volt generator. I was surprised to find that it had a wild leg. Can i change the leads on the stator output to eliminate the high leg and get straight 120/208...

This unit is wired 120-240V 3 phase Delta. if you are using on it 120/208V 3 phase application it will need to be re-tapped. If you are using it in a home 120-240V single phase it will need re-tapping, Do NOT just use 2 legs, as this will cause rotor imbalance and wear out the rotor bearings, and odd ball currents to flow. If there are 12 leads coming off the stator it can be reconnected. If not you are stuck with it, except by using a transformer

How to start a gas generator (should the choke be in or out, to the right or the left before starting

Most Generac generators have a lever for the choke that pulls out. So if the generator is being started for the first use or cold you should choke when starting . Let it run for 30-45 sec. then push it in . Once the engine has been run or warm you dont need to choke every time when starting .

Generac EPS-15 attempts to engage the starter while running

I work on these everyday. You most likely have a bad rotor or stater if the starter engages while running and no output. The no out put is making the generator think its not running causing it to try and start. If its not that then its the control board or voltage regulator.
