Same problem, broke my screen, ordered a new screen off ebay and replaced it. now it works fine most of the time but sometimes external display freezes. sometimes goes black, sometimes goes multicolor pixelated (full screen, in blocks, or lines) when this happens sometimes touchpad still works, others not. removing battery usualy temporarily fixes.

Toshiba Satellite A505 - Most of the time when I turn it on the screen is grey, with no text.

This sounds like a bad display on the laptop. Hook up an external monitor to the vga port on the laptop. You may need to toggle the display to output to the external monitor. This is generally accomplished by pressing the "FN" key + one of the F# keys. Look for an icon that resembles a monitor or it may say LCD. If the graphics display correctly on the external monitor, then you will need to replace the computer screen.

My Dell Latitude D630 has a blank screen.

Check your hardware light on the exterior of your computer and see if it is lit and blinking. If it is, you have an operating system, but just can't see it. That tells me it may be several things:

1. The LCD cutoff switch is in the off position
2. Toggle (Fn) the display to the internal settings of the LCD panel. It may be set to display an external monitor only
3. Plug in an external monitor. If it doesn't display on the external, after pressing the Fn key you have a failed video adapter. If it does display on the external it is most likely a back light or inverter failure.

I have an HP DV9000 laptop and did a presentation yesterday. When I arrived at the site I had to attach the display to an LCD projector. I connected the project via a porft connector, I believe that...

I think it's probably FN+F8 that may do this on the HP laptops. The key should have a little icon on it in the same color as the function key (typically blue) that will toggle the screen from the laptop screen to the external. There are usually 3 modes to this toggle
1. Laptop screen only
2. External screen only
3. Mirrored on laptop screen and external screen

So try toggling with the FN+F8 key combination.

Also you can probably start up in safe mode to disable the external VGA toggle.

When you see the HP Splash screen, start tapping the F8 Key to bring up the boot menu. From there choose safe mode and see if you get the video back in safe mode....After that reboot and see if it will bring up the video in normal viewing mode.

Good Luck

Can't connect to external monitor or to Sony bravia tv. When vga connected nothing happens at all on laptop but external monitor says " check cable" ( have tried another cable ). If connected in power off...

You need to:

- Connect everything with the laptop turned off
- Boot the laptop
- Use the Fn key plus F8 or F9 (I'm trying from a small picture of the keyboard!) to cycle through the external display options.

Dell Inspiron 1501

If the laptop keeps working, and you can use it on an external screen, then it is likely an hardware fault.

First perform a complete system recovery, like probably already instructed by the Dell support helpdesk. This will practically exclude the possibility of a driver or system problem.

If the problem is hardware , then you may have a faulty inverter board , a bad LCD display/LCD ribbon connection, or a faulty video adapter (integrated with motherboard).

If the problem is the inverter, then the screen will go dark, and the laptop will keep working on external display. This is probably your case.

If the problem is LCD display or ribbon cable, then the display will be blank with light on , and the laptop will keep working on external monitor.

Fault concerning video adapter usually cause the the system not to work at all, and it is uncommon under conditions described.

How return an unanswered call in the external display in motorola v8

If you get a call and you don't answer - it's basically a missed call. Ut displays on your external screen for a while, till the backlight goes off. While it's still displayed on your outer screen, you can use softkey on the side of the phone to acknowledge the missed call, but you can't view the details, or bring it back to the external screen once you select 'okay' or open the phone.

External Display

This is a hardware issue. The flex cable connecting the displays is loose or broken. If the phone is new, you can get this repaired under warranty.
