I have a Kenmore Electric Series 80 Dryer that the drum inside won't turn but it heats up and smells hot like something is burning. I can however turn it manually.

Remove the top and the front panel to remove the drum after you purchase a belt and teh idler pulley that Sears selles for your dryer. The pulley's bearing has froze up causing the belt to burn up and falling off

Can't find kenmore 80 series dryer drum belt

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
If you have to replace your drum belt and if you have a front loading machine.
Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer. Be real careful not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the machine, this will expose the belt and drum, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm bracket with pulley, and motor with pulley. Pay attention to the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt and drum.
Sometimes the belt will slip off of the idler arm or motor causing the drum not to turn.
While you have the drum out, I would recommend that you lubricate the drum rollers at the shaft of the roller with a good grade of machine oil like 3 in One oil. This will save you a problem later with the rollers getting noisy, also check your drum rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them this will cause a noise like a thumping type noise. You will need to replace the drum rollers if they have flat spots on them.
I will include these two websites for parts and further help:

Both also have chat assistance 24/7.
Also for a manual I will include this website:

Good luck,
I hope this helps

I have a kenmore 80 series electric dryer. It gets

If your dryer doesn't tumble, check these: Belt Motor Door switch Belt Dryers have a drive belt that turns the clothes drum. If the belt breaks, the drum stops rotating. Then you need to replace the belt, and often the idler pulley, because the pulley tends to wear out at the same time. Click here for a belt installation diagram Motor If the dryer motor only hums when you press the Start button, the motor may be burned out. Here's how to test the dryer motor: Remove the belt. Check for obstructions in the blower fan housing. Manually rotate the shaft of the motor. If the motor is very stiff, or impossible to rotate manually, and the blower fan housing is clear, you need to replace the motor. If the motor rotates freely, run the motor momentarily with the belt removed and the blower in place. If the motor runs fine with the belt removed, there may be a problem with the idler pulley or the clothes drum. Try to rotate the drum by hand. If it is very difficult to move, correct any problem with the rollers or pulley, and then reassemble the dryer and try it again. If the motor hums but doesn't rotate on its own even with the belt removed--yet you can turn it freely by hand--you usually need to replace the motor or the motor start capacitor. Door switch Your dryer can't operate at all if the door switch is defective. It's inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

KENMORE SERIES 80 DRYER..The Tensioner use it or not and how?

To fit the new belt, you will need the idler pulley (tensioner)...

The idler pulley fits in the slots on the bottom of the cabinet (in front of the motor) with the wheel or glide facing the left side. Place the belt (grooves inward) around the drum. Pull the belt through the middle of the idler pulley from the left side. Once the belt is pulled through the idler pulley, pull it around the motor pulley (this should force the idler pulley to "open up" and add tension).

If you still need help, I will try to provide you with a diagram shortly.
Good luck!

Dryer belt broke on my kenmore series 80

With the front cabinet panel off, place the drum against the back and on the rear rollers. The roller on the right will sometimes move toward the rear so reach from underneath and pull it forward. The rollers should sit in the groove. The drum will tilt forward but shouldn't fall off. Route the belt around drum, pulley and motor. Tilt the drum back and support it while placing the front panel back onto it's hooks. With the front panel on (don't screw it on yet), rotate the drum by hand to make sure the seal is not kinked and the belt won't slide off the pulley or motor. If all is well screw in the front panel and re-assemble the rest.

I have a Kenmore Series 80 dryer and the belt broke. The pulley came off and I don't know where it goes or how to put it back on. I also don't know the routing diagram for the new belt. Please help ASAP I...

it goes on the shaft of the electric motor the belt goes around the drum should be a set screw on pulley reattach to shaft tighten then looosen bracket on motor apply tension and tighten you may have to go to the hardware st ore and get another screw if yours is lost as a tip apply red loctite to the threads to prevent it from vibrating loose they have that at the hardware store or auto store
