CMOS battery I need to reset the CMOS, so I need to remove the system battery. I have a problem finding it. Where is it, what does it look like, how many volts does it have and how do I get to it? Is it really so different from all other batteries? I've seen hundreds and I can't recognize this one. I've dissasembled the whole laptop and I can't find it. Someone said that in stead of replacing the battery I can simply circuit the two contacts next to the hdd, the ones with the black and white cable. But the cables leed to the screen, so what do those contacts have to do with the cmos?

Hi there.
Whatever you do don't short the pins by the HDD, this can cause damage, have a look at some of the pictures to give you an idea what some laptop bios/cmos batteries look like>>> CMOS battery - 4e083df.jpeg

I hope this helps in your quest to find it.

My system is password locked and I cannot remember the bios password

You cannot bypass the password security yourself. If you could there would be no point in having password security on all our devices.

Hi saeedbjaan.
You may reset the BIOS password by removing and re-inserting the CMOS Battery.
The CMOS Battery will store the Computer date, time, BIOS password etc.,
Hence, removing and re-inserting the CMOS Battery will reset the BIOS password.
However, please let me know if you need detailed information to remove the CMOS Battery.
Hope this helps.

Hi ,
You need to reset your CMOS.Open your CPU cover.and look for CMOS battery. Its a button cell. You have to remove that battery and on the machine and go into bios.It will remove your cmos password.
But if this thing not worke then find out CMOS reset jumper on your motherboard. It will be located somewhere near your CMOS battery.Just remove that jumper and connect to reset settings.and start your machine. It will remove your password.

How do i reset CMOS on kv8 pro? getting POST code 25 comp not booting up, tried replacing ribbon cable, also unplgged keyboard. HELP!!!

unplug your computer, then you will find a small battery on the motherboard, this is a small silver disk shape. you need to remove this by pressing the clip to its side, this lets it spring free. you then need to locate the cmos jumper. this is a 3 pin stand off with 2 pins already covered by a plastic sleeve. remove the sleeve and place it over the other two pins, wait a few seccons then put everythinbg back to the way it was. put the jumper back in its origional position and re-attach the battery making sure it is the right way up. plug in your system and give it a try.
