It runs fine for awhile but occasionally won't start until I go downstairs and turn the power switch on the side of the furnace off and back on. The problem now is becoming more frequent. It seems to do it most often when the thermostat has cycled cooler all night so the furnace has been off for awhile. I have taken the covers off and checked for loose wiring, etc. and cleaned everything including all electrical contacts. Yesterday I did notice one transformer on the bottom felt hot before I restarted it manually again this morning. Today I checked it while the furnace was operating fine and the same transformer was cool. The transformer is not named on the wiring diagram but is on the right side and has a black & white wire going to it on top and blue & red going to it on the bottom. Any advice? Thanks! Bill Hoidas

thanks but no flame sensor as it's electronic ignition with "glow plug" I don't think the transformer is for the humidifier as it's mounted on the blower housing but I'll check. I just read about the led code on the wiring diagram yesterday so haven't been able to read a code yet when it's "stalled"

Have you checked to see if the fan motor is getting hot. Sometimes a system will shut down if the fan motor is causing the reset fuse to break the circuit due to heat. If that is the problem just a replacement of the motor will usually fix the problem.

As far as the mystery transformer goes im guessing for humidafier.the furnance is going into lock out line voltage resets this and lets it retry. dont know your level of skills but alot of times this is caused by flame sensor which is part of pilot assembly, metal rod that pilot passes electric signal back to control which confirms pilot lite. lightly sand rod that might get you goin

Carrier Furnace won't start up

Sequence of events: call for heat at T-stat, inducer motor turns on, negative pressure created in heat exchanger closes pressure switch, pressure switch control wire runs through all safety's (these must all be in closed/safe position) if ok then glow plug lights. Time delay then gas valve opens, flame verified by "flame rod" t-stat = :)

Hi, I have a Carrier Weathermaster XS. I don't

If I am correct, that is a gas furnace, right? I believe it may be between 15 and 20 years. Pro-active with and older gas furnace is never a bad thing. First of all it can become a safety issue, as concerns of heat exchangers cracking and leaking carbon monoxide into the home become increasing. Second, it sure only be 80% efficient, whereas a new condensing furnace today can be up to 95% efficient. That means that you currently only use 80% of the gas you are burning as actual heat transferred into the house via airflow, and the other 20% is literally leaving the house through the flue. So you can increase efficiency dramatically and be safe at the same time by replacing pro-actively

Blower runs, Ignitor glows, no 24V at gas valve, no click....

Check the two wires coming directly off the transformer. They will be connected to the board the line voltage will be black and white and the 24voltage will be something like blue and red undo from board and check to see if you have 24 volts there. If not your transformer is bad 10 dollar part. Take it to Heating and Air parts house to replace. Let me know ken
