Sony TV model KDL-46Z4100, standby light flashes 14 times, no picture, no sound

Unplugging power is the only way to get it to stop. Plugging it in gives a green light, screen starts to light up in about ten seconds, then there is a click, the screen goes dark, and a red light begins flashing, it flashes 14 times, pauses then flashes 14 times again. It will continue flashing until the TV is unplugged.

Actually, I think I have located the source of the problem myself by removing the back panel and looking over the components carefully. There was some residue on the metal below the T-CON board, when I removed the metal cover from the T-CON board I could see part of the board was scorched. I'm now waiting for a replacement T-CON board to arrive, and once it arrives and is installed I'll post the results. Thanks to everyone that replied. On another note, once I had posted my problem I didn't know how to find my post and look for answers. It was an e-mail from fixya with a link to this site that allowed me to see what was posted.

One note: I found a number on the T-CON board that I used to order a new part, that number is 1-877-777-11. Price quoted was $42.87 + shipping from China.

14 blinks to Sony Brand LCDs indicates a 'Backend error'. It means that, the main board to this TV should be checked for fault. In most cases the main board might need replacement, and a software update too. If you wish to know more details about this blinking code, check this link. It has details of blinking codes to several brands of TVs including Sony. Actually the work is a skilled one, need experience.

14 times means the LCD panel is defective. I just had one of those tvs in my shop. Sony will take care of the panel replacement in warranty.

Sounds Lamp is weak in this TV.
Please replace lamp and procedure is written in TV user manual.

The main power supply regulator section circuit fault. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts.

It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.
Search the site by type in the "brand name" to your device; [Exclude the model number], in the "Search box at the top right of the display window of the Homepage" to get gathered related posts.

12 blinks of standby light indicates 'Scanrate error'. You must have thorough knowledge in electronics to proceed. Actually, this is not a user repairable fault. it is very skilled work.

Sony bravia model kdl-46z4100 has no sound. picture is ok.

Tries tv unplug,replug it back about an hour later for the tv for a resetting back to the factory setting.Go into the tv menu go to Audio Setting go down to do a resetting back to factory setting.These steps will help the tv to get the tv audio back.

probably there is a problem on the power supply section of your tv the cause of it is a deffective bulging capacitors.replace all the bulging capacitors from the power supply.

Ur tv power supply board have dead parts call capacitors.U know basic electronic's and soldering?Take ur tv aparts,check the power supply board,that the board the power cord plug into it.Searches all around for these dead gas leakage capacitors,they all way bulges up on it top,or puff up on it top.Replaced these dead gas leakage capacitors,ur tv will have stable LED light and the power will work again.Or tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

Since the TV is still receiving power, the problem is going to be with the TV's mainboard. After you unplugged the TV and plugged it back in, you said the power light went out again, so I assume the standby light wasn't flashing again? The flashing standby light is indicating an error code so my suggestion is to contact Sony for service options regardless if there is a warranty or not because service is the only solution to this situation. Don't forget to provide them the error code or 4 flashes repeating.

This sounds like a power source problem! (faulty transformer) I would pack it up and take it back for a new one!
This is a problem you can not fix yourself unless your a pro!
