Actually if the hd is corrupted, you can try to go to safe mode or do a chkdsk and then fix boot otherwise you need to contact drivesavers for that.

it depends on u;re BIOS ! So check u;re bios and manual ...

Dell was one of the early pioneers in laptop computers. If you have aDell Inspiron, Lattitude or other Dell laptop computer, you may be ableto speed it up and boost its performance by adding more RAM
How to Add RAM to Your Dell
Step1 Power down your laptop. Unplug the power cord and remove the battery.
Step2Use an ESD wrist strap or other method to ground yourself. This isimportant to prevent static electricity from damaging your computer.
Step3 Check the user manual or service manual for the location of the Memory Access door. On most Dell laptops it is located on the bottom of your computer.
Step4 Open the memory access door by removing the two small screws that hold the door in place.
Step5 Use your fingertips to gently spread the securing clips at either side of the memory module until it pops up.
Step6 Remove the RAM module from the connector by sliding it backwards from the slot at a 45-degree angle.
Step7 Align the notch in the bottom of the RAM module with the tab in the connector slot.
Step8 Slide the module firmly into the slot at a 45-degree angle.
Step9 Rotate the module downward until the securing clips click into place.
Step10 Replace the memory access door.
Step11 Replace the battery and power up the computer to be sure that the RAM is recognized.

Hi
Seems like the hard drive has failed, or there is no hard drive in the laptop, replace it with a new one.
This part of the service manual shows you how to replace it:

Well, I will have to change my HD anyway as it is developing a read error even after CHKDHK and thats why I would like to know the maximum size HD I can opt for. Price of 1TB and 500 GB and pretty close.
