A friend gave us a COBY MP705-2G player, but we have never connected it to the computer. Do we need software? How do we delete and add music?

On the MP610 you could use either Windows Media Player 11 or Coby Media Manager for transfers of songs.

Next steps are important for adding files onto the player:
1. The player should be detected in the software for transfers, when connecting the USB cable.
2. Setup your library in the software (Add to library): There has to be a list of folders in the software manager, where your music is located on the computer.
3. Create a playlist in the software: make a list of songs, you want to transfer onto your player
4. Sync the playlist onto the player.

When using Windows Media Player 11 as this is common for the MPC885, you can delete songs running this software and making connection from the player to the computer using the provided USB cable.
In the Library menu of WMP11, the Coby player should show up on the left side in the list.
When clicking Music in the left corner of the second bar on top of WMP11, all music shows up from preselected synchronization maps on the computer plus the player.
Click on the player to see the content and delete the songs you'd like to remove.

Deleting songs and folders could be performed on the player itself,
see page 25 "Explorer mode".

Deleting files when connected to a computer using the provided USB cable:
1. Seeing the player as a removable disk, exploring on the computer,
in the MUSIC folder for songs, see page 28 and 29.
Always remember to safely disconnect after using this transferring method !

You MUST have the Coby media player software to access the player to it's full potential..Here is the software folder..You can download, add to program files, and then click the red icon inside the folder..It will prompt you to register and you will be all set.

Hi, go to the Setup menu, then to System, then USB Mode. You can select either MSC or Auto; try MSC first. I've noticed the same problem with my computer, and I can get around it by changing that setting. If it doesn't work on MSC then switch to Auto. Worth a try!

Plug it into any usb port on any computer. The unit should mount as a removable drive in "my computer" delete only the MP3 files, as some of the others may be software for operation of the MP3 player. Rock on!

If you want to remove music from your mp3 all you do is just go to my computer on your start program located at the bottom left hand corner once you click that click on removable disk and all your music that you have on your mp3 will come up what ever you dont want just click on it with right clicker and go down to delete.
