There is quite a lot you can do. Go to menu, picture settings and select user 1. From here you can adjust everything from colour to contrast to warmth to sharpness. The best thing to do is to switch to XD manual adjustment and make sure the mpeg noise reduction is set to max. This removes artifacts and gives a better picture. Oddly, connecting via SCART rather than HDMI will give a more watchable picture if the HD broadcast is't at a very high bit-rate.

In the menu selection you should have something in the options called ISM Method. Set this to "color was" to wash colors out, then use the white wash to get the ghost out. It is also recommended that you use your plasma at 50% contrast as the gas used to display color needs time be evenly worn down. I have a brand new 50" LG 1080p full HD 600Hrz that I bought last month, and I already have burn in because I didn't read the manual. Make sure you're using the orbital setting during the first 200 hours as well this will reduce the intensity of the burn.

Hi Sarah, You may want to try lowering the resolution of your computer down first before connecting the 42PX5D. Since everything seems to be working except when you get to the desktop then your PC might be set to a resultion that's too high for the LG (am not 100% sure, but I think that LG's max res is 1024 X 768). Try to adjust your PC's resolution while still connected to a regular monitor, right click on any free/clear part of your desktop and click properties. Display Properties window will pop-up, click on Settings tab, adjust Screen resolution towards the left,trym lowest posiible, color quality, again lowest possible. Then hook it up to the LG. If desktop now displays in LG, do the same again but this time going up. Do it by increment and stop when LG screen goes blank. Press escape to go to setting prior to blank. Adjust color quality best setting acceptable to the LG. Good luck and hopes this work out for you. Regards.

There are individual drivers for each line of plasma cells in the display (horz. & vert.), but they usually are an integral part of the display module that can only be repaired by the manufacturer. A new 42" HD-ready set with more features can be bought for 50-75% of what was likely paid for this one. The cheapest thing to do is learn to live with it. (That's what I'd do until the set got worse or the prices got even lower.)

The TV should be under warranty. Send back. Sounds like the panel is faulty (half the value of the set).
