Descaling : Is it possible to use a vinegar solution for descaling instead of the expensive Saeco decalcifier ? If not, why ? If yes, what would be the ratio (in parts) vinegar / water of the solution ?
There are a couple of things I am thinking for this:
If the espresso machine is not spraying the hot steam like it should it says in the manual to take apart the steam apparatus and clean with hot water then to run hot water through the device after each use to clean.
Furthermore, have you seen those CLR commercials? I am sure white vinegar would be fine to put through the machine. As far as the ratio is concerned use a low concentrate to start out like 1 to 3 then increase until desired results occur.

Thanks for the ratio. I have no problem with the hot steam, though. Anyway, in the meantime, since this machine will refuse to work before you have proceeded with the decalcifying cycle, I did it with plain water. It fooled the machine for this time ! Since this machine answers to office use (10 coffee lovers), I know that I should do it with the vinegar or Saeco specific solution at some point, sooner than later. Also, I read that vinegar is not recommended because it brakes the calcium it very small parts that can hurt the pipes of the machine, when the Saeco solution melts it. How much of that should I believe ? And I wonder, if I want to extend the three-month period between the decalcification processes, how long should it be to play safe with the machine maintenance ?

I asked my chemical engineer father this ... thinking that Saeco just wanted to sell me their pre-made descale solution for $10/bottle. However, my chem eng dad said the manual says not to use vinegar because the machine uses certain plastic or metal parts that will deteriorate with vinegar. The ready made solutions you can buy from Saeco are made mostly of citric acid and don't affect plastics/metals. This is a naturally occurring substance and is not toxic like some of the other commercial cleaners (CLR etc.)

Ok first check if the machine is in greenlight state when you press and hold the water button, as it will not work when the red exclamation mark blinking.
also check if the button work at all flipping back and forth to hot water and steam.
I have never had this problem that it dident work.
But remember this, you dont have to do the descaling again as that has nothing to do with the reset.
You can even reset the descaling alarm with out having done the descaling.
If that for some reason wouldent work I would think its the CPU card is not working.

Did you often use the espresso machine for family or for business, when you often use the machine and you used water that is not filtered, you can assure it need to descale often.
Read carefully the manual and follow instruction. Did you descale it in the right amount of solution, how long and its duration?
If still persist ( the descaling light continue flashing ) then it has a defect in sensor. Since your machine is new, its under warranty. Call the dealer where you brought that and a service technician will send.

Try doing another rinse cycle until water tank empties. I had to do that a couple of times, then the red exclamation mark came on. Then I turned knob to off position, refilled water tank, pressed the descale button for 6 seconds, green light came back on and it did its priming.
