How do I know if the problem with my Hampton Bay Windward II fan is with the ceiling or with the remote. It worked fine for years and now all of a sudden it is hardly ever responding to the remote?

Did you try changing the battery? Unlikely to be the fan, but it could be the receiver.

My Hampton Bay ceiling fan runs only on high speed and the remote has stopped working even after changing the batteries. Does Hampton Bay have a life time warranty?

Yes, look up www.hamptonbay.com and get their contact number from them. It sounds like your transmitter (Remote) has failed. If it were the receiver the fan would most likely not work at all.

Hampton Bay 54 In. Brushed Steel with Remote Model 55295 just stopped working and remote works with other fan so remote is fine. where is code on fan so i can check that and rule that out

Check on top of motor, there should be a small opening with four very small (DIP style) switches.
I presume the fan is installled, so you'll need a ladder to check that, please be safe. Remove the battery cover from your remote, you'll find four similar switches there too. Combination must be the same for the fan to work. Good luck!

I Have a hampton bay ceiling fan mod. 523 342,

if you have connected power directly to the fan motor and it doesn't turn...replace the fan.  However, also check the switches on the fan as you may have bumped them.
