Are you a decent do it yourselfer? It sounds like it is the capacitors. What happens is they get hot and expand (the top of the Capacitor). The top will be dome shaped and it will look like the top is splitting open. You can buy (about $1.50 ea.) the capacitors at your local electronics store (not Radio Shack they usually don't have a high enough amp).
You will need to take the back off and look at all of the capacitors to see which ones are bad. Usually it will be 2 or 3 of the larger ones but there could be more. Next you will need a soldering iron with a fine tip and some wicking material. How could are you at soldering and de-soldering? before I go on.
If you let me know the model # of your set I can be a little more detailed also.

You should check your home wiring and grounding. Also be aware of anything that has recently been turned on when this happens. Anyone using a microvwave, cell phone, or other appliance that might be causing the interference.

Your filter capacitors have popped due to diodes shorting, P-channel FETs shorting from gate-to-drain. Pull-up resistors have changed value and as a result your capacitors have peaked (popped)....so now the tv is in protection mode to prevent further damage to your tv. Take it to your local shop for servicing, or take it back if its under warranty......
