Dell studio one 19 won't start

Inside the DVD drive is a laser optical eye. This eye get's dirty.

Suggest remove ALL power, then open DVD drive tray. Use a can of compressed air for computers to clean, and aim down towards the bottom of the tray.
(Remove AC adapter {Charger}, and Battery)

Disk cleaners have the tendency to wipe the 'gunk' off, then wipe it back on.

Also make sure you still have burner software. Nothing like going to use the DVD burner one day, only to find the Nero burner software was just a trial.

Open "COMPUTER" hold cursor over the Device CD/DVD right click scroll down to "EJECT" and click.

Try disconnecting the battery and leave it off for about 10 to 20 minutes.

if you have replaced the MB and power supply, then the from IO panel could be the failed component

Hard drive needs replacing.

Don't worry dear user this problem is creates when we using a long time are cd/dvd writer but if have this type problem please reinstall your cd/dvd driver and your problem can be solved.

Go to the Dell Download area ( http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&ServiceTag=&SystemID=STUDIO1535&os=WLH&osl=en&catid=&impid= ) and choose the drivers you need. This laptop is not officially supported under Windows 7, so you will have to try the drivers for the Vista version. These often work, but not always.

Not a bad price as I've found motherboards alone from $150. There are others that advertise repairs but quality is unknown.

$290 for parts and labor is reasonable.

You should have a CD that came with the computerthat has "Diagnostics and Utilities" listed under contents. Boot formthis CD and run the extended diagnostics.
If you don't have the CD you can go to www.support.dell.com and select "Drivers and Downloads". Enter the"service tag" (serial number) of the computer. You can then download"Diagnostics" .
If you can't boot from the CD then you CD/DVD drive needs to be replaced. If the computer boots from the CD you have a software issue.

The power source is failing - it will have to be replaced. You can find a generic 400 watts one in almost every shop that sells pc's. Installing it is easy - the cables plug only the right way.
