I have a KDL-55HX800 that dims down and then shuts off and blinks the red power LED 6 times which I think has to deal with backlight problem. I have replaced all boards with ones on eBay and suspect that the eBay boards might be bad too. Any suggestions on diagnostics or fixes? With both connectors unplugged from the LED inverter board it runs for longer.
IIC bus clock and/or data lines low at power on 06
How do you suggest I fix the problem? I see the lines for the IIC bus and data lines coming from the backlight inverter. What do you mean by 06?
06 is the number of blinks that occur at one instance after the set is switched. ON. It is the fault indication only indicate the present condition, that the II2 bus has some fault with it. You have to check and find out the cause for it. Must have a through knowledge in electronics, and experience in service work to these kind of TVs. Fault will not come to you. You have to go before it. We are no providing solutions for problems fro free now. There is no need to point out nothing more than this at this time. When the time the site will distribute paid problems to us, can see you there .
Thanks for your help. I found some more info referring to 6 blinks as a backlight error and possibly the inverter based on some service manuals which I find odd because I have already replaced the backlight inverter as well as the Tcon board
You will make this ser irrepariable. I,m sure. Challenge!!. You might have done it already.. OK. Go forward!!!

Check BL_ERR pin on back light inverter board, what is volt reading that you get before and after tv shuts down? Let me know to proceed.
Thanks.
BTW, I really enjoyed your quote * I don't trust the blinking anymore *

I would suspect one or more of the miniature flourescent backlight lamps. One way to confirm this would be to power up the set with a grayscale image at 40 to 60 IRE. If one or more lamps is failing to light, a slightly darker horizontal area in the grayscale will give it away. Unfortunately, Sony will not supply any of the backlight components apart from a new LCD panel. Sorry.

Plasma and LCD TV sets are prone to having capacitors in the power supply section fail. This is the most likely cause for the probem you describe. When capacitors fail your will commonly see one or more of the following symptoms.

Here are pictures of capacitors...Notice that the ones below look bloated. They have failed and will need to be repalced.

To add some additional information ... no capacitors are bulging anywhere from what I can see and no components get too particularly hot. There are times when the TV will stay running for days and work perfectly fine but there are also times when it will only stay on for about 20 seconds before dimming and then shutting off.
