Sansa Shaker built-in speaker not working.

My daughter has a Sansa Shaker that needs repair. When playing music, sound can be heard if headphones or external speakers are connected to either headphone jack, but if these are not connected, no sound comes out of the built-in speaker. Having some experience with electronics in the family, we would like to try to repair it, but are having trouble opening the case. We have gotten the base off, and removed the visible screws but cannot open the case any further to access the internal speaker. Does anyone have any ideas how we could open the case, or where there might be a service manual for the Shaker? Many thanks!

SOURCE: How to open up a Sansa C140?

I too had a problem with the headphone jack. It took me a while, and a few scratches on my Sansa C140 case, but I FINALLY figured out how to seperate the case.
1) POP the black top (with the buttons and display cover) off. Get under the edge and pry, working your way around. It's just snapped on.
2) With that cover off, you will see four (4) screws, one on each corner. Remove these. The BOTTOM will now come off (may require a little wiggling to slip the battery terminals out of their grooves).
3) You should now be left with the main board contained within the middle of the plastic case. Removing the board is a CHALLENGE as it is held (not tightly) by a couple of tabs, as well as the headphone jack and the connection port.

Be careful when working to get the board free. I ended up popping two of the solder-tabs off the board for the headphone jack when "prying" the board out of the case. Luckily I was able to fix it when re-soldering the jack to the board. And one of these may have already bad (requiring the repair in the first place).

Reverse the steps to put it back together, again being careful when re-inserting the board back into the casing.

Good luck. Hope this answer still find you in time...

SOURCE: headphone jack

The Sansas Earphone Jack soldier is very cheap try bending it or placing something extra to hold the jacks connection to the player. when closed its not niticeable, no need for soldiering. Try it. Contact me if you want a video of what i did. hope this works.

Replaced SD card now Shaker won't play

Hi Cathi!

Few things you need to know about Sansa Shaker and the SD card:
  1. The Sansa Shaker DOES NOT support SDHC memory cards. Only regular SD cards are supported.
  2. Maximum capacity for supported SD cards - 2GB!
  3. Any SD card which doesn't meet the requirement above might cause the problem you encounter. REPLACE the card with a supported one - SD card with up to 2GB in capacity.
  4. No software/data is stored or needed to be on the memory card - apart from your music files.
  5. MP3 file type is fully supported by Sansa Shaker.

Pelu.

My sansa shaker is just not playing any music

"Media Coder" is a free program you can download that will convert your songs on the shaker to MP3 files. I had the same problem. Make sure the shaker is plugged into computer so that you will be able to choose the songs on it to convert. Very easy to use. Just google "Media Coder" and you should find it.

Shaker wont play songs

The songs that you are trying to download may not have the right DRM license - get the premium version of your music service subscription to get the correct license (or go to the license tab under the song properties, and click acquire license).

Sansa shaker not playing

Funny I found this forum because I've been having the same problem. My understanding is that subscription services (yahoo music, iTunes, etc.) don't come in an mp3 file format. You can, however, add songs from cd's you own.

Here's a link you might find helpful. It's from the Sansa Forums. One of the posters describes how you can convert files. I don't know how complicated it is. Good luck! :)

I understand your frustration! I've been having the same problem. I just wasted TWO HOURS trying to get music to download onto this Shaker. The extra $40 for a better device would have been worth it! I can't afford to buy all the cd's that I'd need to fill this player with the songs my son likes. I'm thinking of bringing it back!

Only plays some songs

The Shaker only plays songs in MP3 format.

If you Ripped (copied) CD's to your PC with Windows Media Player, the default settings are as WMA.

You will need to delete these and re-copy them to your PC, then transfer to the Shaker.

Best of Luck.

"uh oh"

The music has to be in MP3 format.

If you have copied CD's to your computer, you will need to change the settings in Windows Media Player to copy them as MP3's.

Windows Media Player>Tools>Settings>Rip Music (Copy Music)>Chane Rip Music as to MP3.

Delete all the songs you copied before from your computer and from the Shaker.

Copy the new songs back to the Shaker after you change the settings.

Best of Luck.

Sansa Shaker

You should not use a program to manage your music on the Sansa Shaker. Just use My Computer to manually drag & drop files onto the device. Also, you can format the device thru My Computer, right click on the device and select format, this will erase everything on the device. Best of Luck
