TV keeps shutting down

My lamp went out on my television LG DLP RU-52SZ51D. I recently replaced the bulb and the television worked fine for a couple of days. However, there was a loud humming noise coming from the back. After a few days, my television will not come back on it will blink one yellow light and then two red lights will blink and the television will no turn on. I opened the lamp back up to find that the bulb is still good. Does anyone know what I need to do.

Okay do I need to replace the entire bulb again or do I need to replace the balast. Or better yet is the balast replaceable.

When turning on the tv there is an extremely loud droning noise. This lessens a little as the set warms up but remains a consistent hum. It only stops when the set is turned off.

Bulb has been replaced and TV worked well for a few months, now goes on sporadically until picture disappears and blinking red indicator lights on the right of the TV come on.

Sounds like it may be a bad ballast

  • Anonymous Jun 09, 2007

DLP TV's use a lamp similar to a florescent. They have to have a ballast for power. The ballast regulates voltage to the light (ie High voltage at start-up, lowers voltage over time until the lamp is running smoothly.

If you've removed the back of your tv the 2 wires running to the lamp housing come from the ballast.

The ballast is a replaceable unit. Removing the back cover of the TV would expose it. If you follow the 2 wires that feed the lamp it will lead you right to the ballast.

LG DLP TV temp problem

A temp problem? First check all the fans and make sure they are free from debris or check to see if they are spinning.

I replaced the lamp in my dlp tv .It turns on for about 5-10 seconds then the lamp turns off and the bulb signal light flashes res

Check to make sure that the lamp housing is fully seated in the compartment, and that the door is properly closed and secured. There's a microswitch on the lamp access door that will shut the lamp off if the door isn't in place properly. That switch itself can be bad and can cause your problem.
Good luck.

I have an LG DLP. that turns off after 15 -30 seconds

If the second light is blinking to orange or red, that is usually the lamp indicator light on an LG DLP tv. That indicates your bulb needs replaced, or something surrounding the bulb has failed (like the cooling fan for the bulb for example) IF you have a spare bulb handy, I'd replace the bulb, keeping in mind if you touch any part of a new bulb with your bare hands, you just cut the life of the bulb by more then half.

Changing lamp on lg dlp

On my unit there's a panel on the lower right hand side, remove the 2 screws with a screw driver. Inside you should see a compartment that is metal and has a thin metal handle. Remove the Black screw on the top left hand side. Then pull the unit out with the handle. Inside the unit holds the bulb, just replace and go through these steps in reverse to place back together.
