I think you have opened many applications at once. by doing this, each application you opened uses memory. if you have opened many applications at once, you consume more memory. To solve this, you either open one application at a time or buy and add memory card for your pc.

The mouse that came with it was not used until yesterday and it sometimes lights up but even when it does, it does not work the pointer.

Hello,

If the mouse pointer works with a different mouse, then the problem is with the mouse that you are using now. You will need to get a new one if that's the case.

The mouse

Hello there.

I recommend doing the following:

1) Shut down the computer (you can hold down the power button on the front of the computer base unit or laptop power button for a few seconds instead of using the mouse)
2) Unplug the mouse base station.
3) Plug the mouse base station in again
4) Turn on the computer and let it start up as normal.
5) Watch for any system messages appearing, like found new hardware.

These steps will verify that there is not a problem with the mouse's base station plugged into the computer. Another thing to check is if the mouse requires batteries, this is often overlooked.

If after doing this there is still no pointer registered, i would suggest trying the mouse in another computer, and if possible trying a different mouse on the same computer.

If the mouse works on another computer then it could be a software problem, which we can help you with.

If the mouse doesn't work on another computer, but a different mouse works fine on the same computer, then im afraid your mouse has to be replaced.

Please post back after trying the above steps and let us know. Telling us which mouse you have exactly will futher help.
Hope this helps.

Please backup the data by logging in to Safe Mode, please restart and start pressing F8 key to select Safe Mode then re-install the Windows 7 Operating System using the Recovery Disc or recovery Partition of the Hard Drive. The Recovery Partition can be accessed by restarting the computer and try pressing F10 Key. The Windows XP Operating System is displaying an error because it does not have SATA Driver to detect the Hard Drive. As Windows 7 has it, you can re-install it from recovery partition.

Freezing or Jumping Mouse Pointer

This could happen if the PS/2 connector on the motherboard is defective, or if there is a failing component in the PS/2 circuitry on the motherboard.
Could also be due to loose solder points at the PS/2 connector.
This needs to be checked by a qualified technician.
