Windows XP is a very old system in computer years. You should probably try using on another computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows 10. If you check the Garmin website it will most likely support what I have described.

Surely, you can remember where you were when you set the pin code, just return there and it will unlock itself.
Garmin use this to deter thieves from unlocking stolen units.

Does your Nuvi 200 have a headphone jack? If so, try that with a pair of headphones. If you hear sound, then your internal speaker went bad. It's a known problem with the Nuvi.

Garmin usb not recognized by windows 7

Has your PC ever been able to recognize the Nuvi? A common problem on the Nuvi 11xx, 12xx, 13xx & 14xx are broken connections between the rear USB port and the printed circuit board. This will prevent communication between a PC and the Nuvi. It can also affect charging.

Have you tried the unit on a different PC or operating system?

Battery

The unit will take a very slow charge via your computer. I tell most people no it doesnt charge VIA your PC just because it takes soooo long. I recommend getting a new power cable from GPSCity. Just call them up or follow the like to the cable you need.

** This cable is for the Nuvi 200 series GPS units

I have just purchased a sendai universal home charger, when I plug it is my Garmin 200, and the other end into the electrical socket I get a picture on the screen, looks like a computer with a plug running...

The nuvi thinks you've connected it to the USB port of your home computer. It's charging, so pay no attention to the screen.

If you HAD connected it to the USB port, you would also see the nuvi as a storage device attached to your computer. That's how you can download pictures that you can display on your nuvi. It's also the mechanism used when you update your maps and/or software.

Have a phone charger 12 volt that fits and charges the nuvi 200 but with it plugged in it wont show anything but a computer and nuvi on screen. unplug and it works but only for a while til needs a new...

thats because the phone charger is wired different to the gps charger , u need a genuine charger, if when pluged into pc it takes longer to charge, best to have gps turned off while charging from pc..... if it still does not work/ hold charge battery in unit gone , caused by being in active for over 3 months

Nothing Happens

This happens when the GPS unit is completely discharged. Try charging the GPS unit from an external source (USB from your PC or 5V USB power adopter). After a full charge, if the GPS unit powers on then something is wrong with the power cable or the 12V plug and you need to replace it.

My Garmin Nuvi (200 I think) freezes..

My recomendation is to use the original accesory for cigarete lighter. I'll give you an example: when I connect my Nuvi 200 to any other USB cable (computer or home charger) its behaviour is like you said - it "says" that is connected to a computer and remains in stand by. But when I connect it to cigarette lighter (but note - the original one) the nuvi 200 recognize it as a car power source and works. The battery symbol disappear from screen and it works perfectly. When I turn off the engine or simply unplug the device from cigarette lighter (not from nuvi !) it recognizez that and ask me if I want tu turn it off on remains on on own battery. If I make no option the nuvi will turn off automatically after some seconds. So it recognize perfectly the car adapter and its behaviour is adapted to a car.

Windows XP will not recognize Garmin 200W

I had the same issue. I would plug it in and it would recognize the device then it would disappear.

What I did to solve the problem was to first turn on my Gamin 200w. After it was finished loading maps then I plugged in in to the usb port. My machine recognized the device without any problems. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium. Hope that helps.
