I can only print by manually feeding in each page -HP 4MV Printer

I have a HP LaserJet 4MV printer. Although it's an old printer, I really haven't used it very much over the years. About a year ago, it stopped printing automatically using paper from the tray. The paper is loaded correctly in the tray, but each time I try to print from the tray, it registers a "Jam". There really is no jam, but it "thinks" there's a jam. I've examined the tray, removed it, replaced it over and over, but the problem persists. I've removed part of the paper from the tray and even replaced the paper, but it doesn't help. Automatic printing from the tray just doesn't work anymore. Now the only way I can print is by manually feeding pages one at a time. Obviously, this is quite inconventient. Is there some kind of "sensor" in the tray? If so, where is it? Do you have any idea why my printer is registering a "jam" when there is no paper jam? The paper doesn't even move in the tray at all.

SOURCE: HP LaserJet 4MV

You could remove the fuser, turn the machine off, and wait an hour. It may reset the error. However, if the error still persists, it will be a parts replacement of the fuser, low voltage power supply, or the DC controller. 90% it is the fuser. Good luck.

4mv won't pick up paper

The feed rollers need to be replaced. The squeak is the worn rollers sliding over the edge of the paper.

Can you perform a test print? Try this:
To print a Test Menu page
1
Press On Line] to take the printer off line.
2 Press [Menu] repeatedly until TEST MENU appears.
3 Press [Item] repeatedly until PS CONFIG PAGE (or another PS test page)
appears.
4 Press [Enter] to print the page. The page will print in less than one minute.
5 Press [On Line] to place the printer back on line.

Did the printer print? If so, you may have either an nterface or cable problem.

Repair Kit for HP 4MV Printer - Pick Up Rollers

The ruber tyres on the pick rollers can harden with age, even if you are not using it. Try applying gum turpentine to rubber tyre with Q tip. This is used to keep a printer picking up untill replacemant rollers can be fitted.
