HDMI video not functioning on a new Onkyo TX-SR606

Video works when connected directly from DVD or Sat Receiver using HDMI. When using the HDMI through the Onkyo unit, I get the sound but no video. Only HDMI Cables are used as per the wiring diagram. The setup screens do work and they show the default HDMI input setup. I have the HDMI cables connected as per this default set up.
Still doesn't work.
Is there some HDMI output enable selection somewhere?

I have the exact same problem.  Only sound and no video when using HDMI. If the individual components are hooked directly to the tv via HDMI, I get video.  I tried connecting everything via component cables and still no video ( yes I changed the input settings).

Onkyo support (if they can be called that) told me to return it to the place of purchase.  They really didn't ask much or suggest anything.  It makes me think that they know there is a problem with the unit.

I was able to get HDMI to work initially; after switching input sources, the HDMI out no longer workes, even though there is only one HDMI out that was connected to the TV from the receiver.

Help. We just used all HDMI cables and plugged in the new receiver with our Sony HDTV, Sat, and Blue Ray Disc. We are unable to get the tv screen. Can someone give us some advice

Same issue on mine where I hear sound but it produces no picture through my projector which was the whole reason I bought this receiver. has anyone come up with a solution besides returning it as I ordered over New Egg??

Yes, I have the same problem: sound but no video on my Onkyo RX-SR606. It all worked perfectly since last June. The problem only started a couple of days ago. Everything worked fine in the evening but not the next morning. I didn't do anything but shut the equipment off in the evening and back on in the morning.

I checked all input asignments. They are correct and the same as prior to the problem.

I also have the same problem. I checked my inputs and they are right. I have to repeatly turn off my reciever to finally get it to show on the Tv

Problem is, if you can't get video out to work then how can you check to see if there is a mismatched input assignment?

  • alka_maneesh Apr 11, 2009

I have the same problem. My set worked fine for 2 months and suddenly it stopped working. I get audio output but no video. The home theater box is connected to the TV using the HDMI out. I have checked all input assignments, they all look fine. I do not get the display even in the reciver setup mode! Please help.

  • saintaz Apr 15, 2009

HDMI output works only on the first input source during power up.
If you switch input sources (from cable to dvd), the HDMI output does not put out a video signal and the audio output is intermittent, working only for a second every 20 seconds. Is this Receiver a lemon?

Never worked, this problem is most fustrating. I am so disappointed. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

Try pressing and holding the display button on the front panel of your receiver, this should give you an idea if the receiver is receiving and transmitting video signals. please post what you see when you do it...

For me, it was the Monitor Out setting that had defaulted back to Component. I remembered to change the individual inputs to HDMI - but had forgotten to set the Monitor Out to be HDMI.

This has already been mentioned before - the problem is probably due to a mis-matched input assignment. Check that the input assignment for the device hasn't been set at 'Componemt'; best is to leave it at '---' or set it to 'HDMI' if it is actually connected thru HDMI to the Receiver. All other input connections (composite or svideo) are automatically upconverted to HDMI by the Receiver. This should solve your problem. Good Luck!

Try checking the input assignment section and go to Component Video Input. Make sure DVD and CBL/SAT has" -----" on them to prevent conflict. Hope this helps. ^_^

I cannot get video signal from my Samsung p1590 Blu Ray player via HDMI to pass through my Onkyo TX-SR606 AV Receiver. I get video if I connect Blu Ray player directly to TV, and have tried all HDMI ports...

I think this one is for the Onkyo wizards:

I would write them via email here:

http://www.onkyousa.com/feedback_form.cfm

However I did find this 2 page hookup manual with nice notes at link listed below that may help you solve the mystery:

(seems you may have to assign the digital input)

http://filedepot.onkyousa.com/Files/QuickHookup/TX-SR606_QSS_En_A.pdf?CFID=918117&CFTOKEN=40624545&jsessionid=f0306ea8a0d68bb60a49102e3e5510576756

Assigning the Digital Input
If there’s no sound, you’ll need to assign the digital inputs as
necessary using the setup menus on the TX-SR606’s display.
If you connect your DVD player to the AV receiver’s COAXIAL 1
DIGITAL IN, and your cable/satellite receiver to the COAXIAL 2
DIGITAL IN, as shown, it’s not necessary to assign the digital input.
The onscreen setup menus appear only on a TV that is
connected to the HDMI OUT. If your TV is connected to the composite video or S-Video MONITOR OUT, or the
COMPONENT VIDEO OUT, use the TX-SR606’s display when changing settings.

Thanks for using FixYa!

No audio from pc connected using hdmi

Are you not getting audio to the television speakers and the onkyo reciever speakers when connected HDMI thru the reciever or just the television. If it is just thru the television then it is because the reciever is grabbing the HDMI audio signal and converting it so it does not reach the TV. If it is both then try changing the HDMI signal output from PCM to DOLBY DIGITAL on the computer. Your reciever may not be able to process the PCM signal of the computer. Does the reciever show a PCM or DOBLY DIGITAL display when HDMI is hooked up to it?

No video

HDMI has had a multitude of issues and yours is one of them. Your receiver has either 1.1,1.2,1.2a ver HDMI. If it's still under warranty, you can have it upgraded to 1.3b which is the current and working version. So far so good. If it's out of warranty, it's a 200-300 $ repair. If you just use HDMI directly to your TV, providing you have enough HDMI inputs on the set, you can just run optical or digital coaxial to the receiver and all will work fine. Hope this helps.

Onkyo TX-SR604 provides audio thru receiver but no video on Bravia LCD when satellite receiver signal is sent thru any of the Onkyo HDMI connections to tv, however if I connect up my Samsung DVD recorder...

easiest fix is to take all hdmi straight to tv. then come out of tv with optical cable to your receiver. that way what ever your watching will automatically be sent to the receiver thru optical. you even will get dolby dig. also you can have audio from your tv when you dont want to use your surround. keeps receiver on one input also.

I am trying to get the volume bar on my tv screen. It works on everything else but not cbl/sat. Receiver is tx-sr606. Thanks

en order to help out here a few questions need to be asked? Is the CBL/SAT connection VIA HDMI? Some HDMI signals will not pass CC and or On-screen display (OSD) via certain video modes. If all is analog video, not a problem, if mixed with component and HDMI and analog, you may experience issues. Let me know your thoughts and the best of luck.

Onkyo TX-SR606 Reciever - 20 sec after power on, screen is green

The HDMI version in your receiver is 1.1 or 1.2 which will not pass video as it should. It's not Onkyo's firmware at issue, it's HDMI and in all receivers up to 2008 model year this is a very heated problem! The only fix is to run FIOS directly to the TV via HDMI and run it's audio to your receiver with Digital Coaxial or Optical. Hope this helps

Onkyo tx-sr606 can not get it to work w tv using hdmi cables

try using a HDMI cable connecting the receiver from the "out" to the tv, then allocate through the setup menu what you have connected, say a cable box by hdmi, you would go to cable/sat allocate the port "hdmi1 or coax 1" then return. If it is a dvd click on dvd then allocate eg: "hdmi 2" then return.

New home theater setup- no signal at tv using onkyo tx=sr605

Could well be the quality of your cables. if you have high end cables the consult a service agent. if you have the cables that came with the products, go and get some better ones.
