Center Brake Light Not Working

2004 G-35 Sedan - took it to get inspected today, the center brake light (rear window) was not working so it failed. Is the problem possibly a fuse or is it most likely a bulb. Firestone wanted $170 to fix it - without really looking at it first. Need some help on where to start.

I have the same problem. I was told by my mechanic that it is a special bulb and the entire thing must be replaced to a tune of $200!

I had the same problem on both of my G35 cars. It seems the problem lays in the plug connector for the light itself. I just cut the plug off the light and hard wired it to the wiring harness. All is well now.

Rear brale lights not functional. center brake lght functional

Ok, trailer lights are basically separate circuits from the regular stop lights and same with the center brake light.

There is a brake light fuse located in the fusebox next to the battery in the engine compartment. Use a 12v test light to see if it becomes hot both sides of the fuse, when the brake is depressed.

12v Test lights can be bought at a auto parts store for less than $15. Do not get a "continuity light" as these are different. A test light, lights when you touch a terminal and voltage is present using the alligator clip attached to a good ground

Notice that the center stop light does not go through this fuse in the diagram.

I have included a wiring diagram for your vehicle.

If you find the brake light fuse blown, and it repeatedly blows, you have a short to ground from the fuse to the brake lights somewhere. First step is to check the brake lights for a short. and work your way back to the fuse.

1998 Lincoln Town Car ONLY CENTER BRAKE LIGHT IN REAR WINDOW WORKING. I'VE CHANGE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH. STILL NO LEFT OR RIGHT BRAKE LIGHT.

If the hight mount brake light is working , then your switches , fuses , relays , are OK . Most likely problem is that the bulbs themselves are burnt out , or there is a broken or loose wire.

1998 chevy lumina: rear window brake light not working, left brake light not working, rear left turn signal not working

See if bulbs have burnt out in the left brake light and rear turn signal (one bulb if combined) and also rear center high mount brake light.

If the left turn signal has a slower speed than the right turn signal, this is a symptom of a bulb or bulbs burnt out.

Usually, the wiring is not a problem, but I would not rule wiring (or sockets) as a problem out.

Good luck on this repair.

Center brake light illuminates, but LH/RH brake lights do not

LH/RH lights cable could be disconnected anywhere, will take a long time to trace.
Center Brake Light and LH & RH should be connected at one point.
Jump a cable from Center Brake Light to one of Rear Break Light.
Hope this will works.

Rear tail light

Is the top center light working (the light at the window)?? If not, check your brake light switch at the brake pedal. It may be damaged or needs adjustment. If the center light is still working, you will need to have the ground and leads checked at the brake lights. Hopefully this helps

1990 Volvo DL Sedan Brake Lites Work but Also Come on With Running Lites

Is there a switch on the left side of the dash that has a red lens and a wavy line across it? If so, you have a rear fog light switch and it has been activated, causing your brake lights to come on each time you turn your headlights on. Flip the switch and the rear lights should display only the parking lights with the headlights on.

Break light problem

Do you know if the brake light bulbs are working? (are the bulbs good?). (the bulbs have two parts, one for brake lights the other for running lights)
If the third brake light bulb is working the brake lights should be with good light bulbs.
