Picture format I have a projection color TV...I believe a 53" Recently, DirectTV installed a new receiver and now any channel that is not high definition comes in "Full" format and I cannot change the picture format to "Smooth Wide" as I always had it set. Any channel in high def comes in fine, but the others do not. The receiver was a high def receiver installed in anticipation of the change from analog to digital signals. Is that the problem

The HD reciever shouldn't be the problem.

If you recieve an image with a 4:3 aspect ratio, the image will be displayed at that ratio on your HDTV unless you specify otherwise. To do so go to your TV's Setup screen

setup
Choose picture formats
select smooth wide as your default

***Some digital (ATSC format) stations may transmit 4:3 images in a way that will not allow expansion. You will be unable to adjust the picture format.

Hope this helps!!!

Configuration Problems

Improperly configuring TV setting can cause problems. Verify the TV settings are set correctly. First, brightness and contrast should not be set to high or to low because this can cause poor picture images. Second, adjust the color on the TV when the picture displays colors poorly. Third, if you are having sound issues then check to make sure the volume is not muted or turn down all the way.

Good Day, Young33dm;
If you have the BOX showing OSD, (On Screen Display), the BOX is bad. Get a new box or try resetting the BOX by unplugging it for 2 to 3 minutes, then plug back into A/C source.
Good Luck, big IRISH.

My LXI TV won't allow me to get any channels above 13 after doing the auto scan for channels. I am using DirectTV.

The only way to fix the problem is to hook your TV to a standard cable hookup and go through the "auto memo" scan process. The auto scan progarm then automatically sets itself to the CATV mode, rather than the standard mode, so channels above 13 can be received after disconnecting and reconnecting to a DirectTV, satellite antenna.

Antenna for my HDTV

Special HD or Digital antennas are not required to receive digital stations. A good VHF/UHF antenna should work. Try an amplified antenna for the best reception. Most antennas have a coax type connector which should connect to the ant. in jack on the back of your DirectTV box or to your tv depending how the box is connected to your tv.

Viewing HDTV on a Sony 53" KP-53HS30

This TV is a projector - not a plasma. I can't see how you would get "burn in" on this set. It should handle an HD picture fine.
