Manual says nothing about charging unit, but after it never came on I figured that much out. Plug it into the wall charger and red light on front of unit blinks, never turns to a solid red light. Left it on charge for over 16 hours and it still shows the same blinking red light. When I tried to turn the unit on the screen tries to light up with the picture but it is flickering and then it goes in and out before shutting down completely. Do I need to replace the battery already, check a connection inside it or just simply through it away and cut my losses?
Check that you have the battery in the correct way
if it has batteries like AA , AAA or what ever the negative terminal of the battery goes against the coil spring so if you have them all facing the same way, that may be why they are not charging
the screen shutting down at this stage would be cause the batteries are flat
of course you could always bet new fully charged rechargeable batteries and put them in correctly to see if the rest works

Something is breaking down. Possibly a specific ceramic capacitor on the main power pcb that has been troublesome. Usually there is just a loud pop and the screen goes dead. If the set is less than a year old it is still on parts warranty and the technician could just change circuit boards until the problem is gone.

Too late now but I hope you had it serviced while it was still on parts warranty. With a couple of exceptions, service on those is by major pcb replacement.

i had my power supply blow on mine within the first year took it in because i had extended warranty and they fixed it, only problem was finding a dealer in my area to fix it, then took over a week, because of customer support issues

Funai used lousy wire going from the inverter board to the backlight tubes. Look for any wires that are touching each other. The insulation could have broke down between them and started arching. Get some heatshrink tubing to recover the damaged wires.

your powersupply is dying in the set.. have it checked..

called customer service for this product (800-968-9853). They had three suggestions: 1) try a different wall outlet for charging. If this did not correct the problem then follow up with option 2 or 3: 2) if you have reciept you can follow through with warranty if not...3) throw it away it is worthless. Love their honesty. Will not buy another Sylvania or Dolby DVD player again!!! Why does Sylvania put its name on a piece of ####? Why not let Dolby take all the blame?
