There is a caller volume control. In a call, locate the volume buttons and push the upper one. The volume should increase. If this doesn't help, it may be the speaker is blocked, or just plain bad [electronic devices have been known to arrive bad out of the box.

SOURCE: How do you set up caller ID on a Norstar M7208

There are a few other things you need before it will just work on your phones. You need to get Caller-Id activated by your carrier on each of the 4 lines. You also need to make sure your system has a Trunk card capable of Caller-Id. The card in your systems should be labeled CID.

After this you still need to program the lines for Caller-Id in the configuration section of programming.

HOW CAN I TURN UP THE VOLUME ON HANDSET. VOLUME IS SO LOW CALLERS CAN NO HEAR ME

There is no outgoing (microphone) volume control, if it is only your set try the handset from different extension. The microphone element may have been damaged (especially if dropped) and have to be replaced. Replacement handsets are not hard to find. If everyone on your system claims that callers cannot hear them, there are some settings on the central switch (KSU) which might help, but only after ruling out a problem on your particular set.

M7208 call display not working hot sure how to program it. when calls come in it does not show who is calling

So is the display not working or are you trying to set up caller ID?

M7208 phones were delivered with the very first Nortel systems and if you have one of those, you're not getting CID. The CICS cabinet or higher requries a CID trunk card and IIRC 5.0 or higher software. If all of those are in place, as a minimum you can press FEATURE 811 to display CID info.

    2. Put the first call on hold.

Handset problem

It sounds like you have a defective handset cord or handset. First, at your phone, switch your handset with another phones handset that you know for sure works. From your phone make a test call. If the caller can now hear you, the original handset from your phone is defective. If the caller still can not hear you, switch your handset cord with another handset cord from another phone that you know works. From your phone make another test call. If the caller can hear you, then your original handset cord is defective. You can purchase another handset cord from your local office supply store. Your phone uses a standard handset cord. It may be difficult to match the original color of your handset cord. Be sure to take your defective handset cord with you, so you can try to match the color. If the caller still does not hear you. Put your original handset and original handset cord back on your phone. Then plug your phone in to another wall jack, that you know works with another phone. The other phone needs to be an identical phone to yours (same number of buttons and same model number. The model number can be found under the phone). Wait approximately 90 seconds, sometimes longer, after you plug your phone into the other wall jack. Now, make another test call from your phone. If the caller can now hear you from your phone with it plugged into another working jack, then you have a defective station port or jack where your phone was originally plugged in at. If the caller still can not hear then you have a defective phone.
