Here are a couple things you can do:

1) You can go to HP Support for C4280 where you need to select your operating system. On the next page you can select the software you need/want, either basic or full feature, and download it to your computer. After you download it, you can run it to install the software.

2) Have a friend copy your CD to a flash drive and then install the software from it.

Here is a link for you to download any manuals for your printer also. C4280 Manuals

Hello
Head of to the Acer website.Put in your model and serial # of your laptop. Find and download the cd or dvd drivers and install them on your laptop.

Also have you done the windows updates? Usually this will solve the problem.

IBM laptop cant load XP from externall CD drive

If you have a floppy drive on it you are in luck.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;310994#XSLTH3135121122120121120120

That would be the most straightforward way to do it.

If not.

Are you able to boot off the external CD?

If so there is another way using the PE , preinstallatoin enviroment.

If not , you said you formatted it externally , which I assume means you have either a 2.5 to 3.5 IDE adapter or a USB to IDE adapter and another PC to format it with.

If you can hook the drive to another PC , you can do the install there , change some hardware settings , run the SYSPREP utility and swap the drive back into the laptop.

Acer aspire cd/dvd drive not working

Most likely if you have to use a paperclip to open the door, your drive is bad and needs to be replaced. They are pretty easy to install, directions depends on if you have a desktop or laptop Aspire.

Cd drive/ USB/ reinstall XP

Nifty little IDE to laptop ide adapters on ebay for under $10 delivered..
remove laptop HD.. use adapter, plug into desktop as second drive.
Load up XP install to a folder.. use a decent file copier so you get hidden files. try filesync 2.xx (look for it),
Back into the laptop, try it..

Only other thing would be LEGACY USB SUPPORT in the bios and an external usb drive... Hopefully your usb problem is XP related and not hardware related..

Install a roxio cd into my laptop

You need a replacement CD drive most likely.

The 5300 can be swapped for almost any generic laptop optical drive. I would pick one up from directron.com or geeks.com they have new drives cheap.

Then just unscrew the plastic mounting rails attached to the side and back of the drive, swap them over to the new drive and go!

Windows

hard drives dont read cd's
does the door close?
if not close it.

1)left clik my computer
2)double clik the cd rom drive, making sure theres a disk in it.
3)right clik on my computer
device manager
look for a yellow exclamation point or red X where the cd-rom is.
high light the cd-rom
right clik
uninstall
restart the computer
windows will detect and re-install the cd-rom drive.
try a cd

if that doesnt work update windows

also buy a cd-rom cleaner at your local electronics store
clean the drive w/th cleaner
try a cd

if updating your driver for the cd rom drive and all ive suggested then its time for a new cdrom drive
